Problem Understanding
Each round produces a choice of an integer at every position on a cycle. After the numbers are chosen, we look at each adjacent pair on the cycle and award one point to both endpoints whenever the left endpoint is strictly larger than the right endpoint. Over multiple rounds, every edge between consecutive vertices contributes some number of times, and each such contribution increases the score of its two endpoints.
From the final data, we are given only the total score accumulated at each vertex. The task is to reconstruct the minimum number of rounds needed so that there exists a sequence of valid rounds producing exactly these totals.
The constraints force an $O(n)$ or $O(n \log n)$ solution per test case. The sum of $n$ across tests is $5 \cdot 10^5$, so any solution that is quadratic in a single test is immediately impossible. Even $O(n \log n)$ is acceptable only if it is very clean; the intended solution is linear per test case.
A naive approach would try to simulate rounds or greedily construct them. That fails quickly because the space of valid rounds is exponential: each round corresponds to choosing a permutation of values, and thus implicitly choosing a consistent orientation pattern on the cycle. Any attempt to explicitly build rounds or greedily assign them per edge will either overcount or violate feasibility without a global consistency check.
A second subtle pitfall appears when trying to treat each edge independently. For example, on a 4-cycle, if we try to assign contributions independently as if each edge can be scheduled arbitrarily per round, we might produce a configuration where every edge requires a contribution in the same round. That would force all comparisons to be strict descents around the cycle, which is impossible.
The core difficulty is that edges are not independent: every round corresponds to a globally consistent ordering, which forbids selecting all edges simultaneously in that round.
Approaches
A brute-force view is to imagine each round as selecting a subset of cycle edges where “left is greater than right” holds, and then assign each required edge contribution to some round. If we try to construct rounds one by one, we would repeatedly pick a valid orientation of the cycle and subtract contributions. This is correct but infeasible, because the number of possible orientations is exponential, and deciding how to distribute remaining demand across them becomes combinatorial.
The key structural observation is to stop thinking in terms of rounds first and instead count how many times each edge is used. Let $c_i$ be the number of rounds in which edge $i \to i+1$ contributes a point. Then each vertex score decomposes cleanly as
$$a_i = c_{i-1} + c_i.$$
This transforms the problem into finding a nonnegative integer assignment $c_i$ on edges that satisfies a linear system on the cycle.
Once such a sequence $c$ is fixed, we reinterpret rounds as distributing each edge’s contributions into time slots. Each round corresponds to selecting a 0/1 pattern over edges, where a 1 means the edge is used in that round. The only restriction is that in a valid round, we cannot set all edges to 1 simultaneously, because that would imply a strict cycle of inequalities.
So the problem becomes: split each $c_i$ into $R$ layers such that each layer has at least one zero. This is equivalent to saying each round uses at most $n-1$ edges, giving the global constraint
$$\sum c_i \le R(n-1).$$
For any fixed feasible $c$, the minimum number of rounds needed is

The remaining task is to understand which $c$ assignments are possible. From $a_i = c_{i-1} + c_i$, we can express all $c_i$ in terms of a single variable, say $c_1 = x$. Since both $\max c_i$ and $\sum c_i$ are piecewise linear in $x$, the optimal value occurs at boundary points of this interval or at points where one constraint becomes tight.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We start by converting vertex scores into edge contributions.
- Fix $c_1 = x$. This single value determines all other $c_i$ through the recurrence $c_i = a_i - c_{i-1}$. The recurrence alternates signs, so each $c_i$ becomes a linear function of $x$.
- Compute all $c_i$ symbolically as $c_i = s_i \cdot x + b_i$, where $s_i \in {+1,-1}$. This separation isolates the only free degree of freedom in the system.
- Enforce feasibility $c_i \ge 0$ for all $i$. Each inequality becomes either a lower bound or an upper bound on $x$, producing a single interval $[L, R]$. This interval contains all valid decompositions of the scores into edge contributions.
- For any valid $x$, compute $\max c_i$ and $\sum c_i$. These are linear or piecewise linear functions over the interval, so we only need to evaluate them at critical points rather than continuously.
- Compute the number of rounds required for each candidate $x$ using:

Why it works
The transformation to edge variables removes the cyclic dependency in vertex constraints and exposes a one-dimensional space of solutions. Every valid construction corresponds to exactly one point in this interval. The rounding condition for rounds is tight because each round can contribute at most $n-1$ edges, and any schedule achieving that bound is achievable by constructing each layer as a valid cyclic permutation orientation with at least one missing edge. This makes the bound both necessary and sufficient, so minimizing over feasible $c$ fully solves the original problem.

The solution starts by encoding edge contributions as a linear recurrence anchored at a single free parameter. That removes the cycle dependency and reduces the search space to an interval of valid values. The feasibility of that parameter is checked through linear bounds derived from nonnegativity.
Once a valid edge decomposition is fixed, the number of rounds is computed using two independent constraints: the maximum load on any edge and the global capacity constraint that each round can carry at most $n-1$ edges.
A subtle point is that only the endpoints of the feasible interval need to be checked. Inside the interval, both the maximum edge load and total sum behave linearly or piecewise linearly, and their combination cannot produce a strictly better value than at a boundary.

Edge Cases
When $n = 2$, the cycle degenerates into a single edge used twice per round. The recurrence collapses and the solution reduces to directly interpreting both vertices as the same edge count, so the answer equals the shared value divided appropriately by edge contribution structure.
When all $a_i$ are equal, the alternating recurrence produces a symmetric interval centered around a single feasible configuration. Any imbalance increases either the maximum edge load or the total sum requirement, so the optimum sits at a perfectly balanced assignment.
When the values alternate sharply, the feasibility interval becomes tight, and only one endpoint remains valid after enforcing nonnegativity. This directly demonstrates why boundary evaluation is sufficient: interior points violate either a local edge constraint or increase the bottleneck edge load.
