The constraints imply that we cannot rebuild a store’s full contents from scratch for every query. With up to 30000 operations and each store potentially copying another, a naive recomputation per query would easily exceed quadratic time. The knapsack capacity and item values are small (up to 2000), which strongly suggests a DP optimization over a bounded weight dimension.

A few subtle failure cases appear in naive approaches. If we store full vectors per version and copy them during cloning, worst-case chains of length q make copying O(q) per operation, leading to O(q²) blowup. Another pitfall is handling deletion incorrectly: removal is by insertion time, not by value or index in the current array. For example, if a store has items inserted as (5,7), (3,4), (2,1), deletion removes (5,7), not the smallest or last in vector order after modifications. A structure that loses insertion order will silently break correctness.

Finally, answering queries independently with a fresh knapsack over the current set would also be too slow unless we exploit the fact that item values are small.

Approaches

The brute-force idea is straightforward. Each store explicitly maintains its list of items in insertion order. Cloning copies the full list, insertion appends, deletion removes the first element, and query runs a standard 0/1 knapsack over all items in that store. This is correct because it directly simulates the problem definition. However, cloning alone costs O(n) per operation in the worst case, and knapsack costs O(n · 2000) per query. With up to 30000 operations, this leads to roughly 10¹¹ operations in the worst case, which is not feasible.

The key observation is that item values are bounded by 2000, and the knapsack capacity is also bounded by 2000. This makes the knapsack part amenable to a DP representation that can be merged efficiently. Instead of storing raw item lists, we maintain a DP array for each store where dp[c] is the maximum tastiness achievable with total cost exactly or at most c. Each insertion becomes a bounded knapsack transition over a single item, and each deletion corresponds to undoing the earliest inserted item in that version.

The second crucial structure is persistence. Since stores branch from each other, we cannot overwrite states. We therefore maintain a version tree of stores. Each store node stores a history of operations, and we process operations in a DFS-like manner over this tree, applying and undoing changes as we traverse. This ensures that each insertion is applied exactly once and removed exactly once along the recursion path.

To support deletions of the oldest element, each store maintains a queue of inserted items in insertion order. Deletion refers to the front of that queue, which we can track globally per store version.

The final optimization is that each DP update is bounded by 2000, and each item is processed exactly once across the entire traversal, making the total complexity manageable.

Algorithm Walkthrough

We interpret all stores as nodes in a rooted tree. Each type 1 query creates a child node. Type 2 and type 3 queries are attached to the corresponding node as events.

We maintain a global DP array dp, where dp[c] represents the best tastiness achievable with cost limit c in the current DFS state.

When entering a node, we apply all its insert operations by performing 0/1 knapsack transitions on dp. 5. For each insertion of an item (p, t), update dp from high to low:

dp[c] = max(dp[c], dp[c - p] + t) for all c ≥ p.

This ensures each item is used at most once along the current path. 6. For each deletion event, we must remove the oldest item in that store.

Instead of trying to “undo” a knapsack directly, we simulate correctness by ensuring that deletion corresponds to not applying that item in deeper DFS branches. This is handled by pairing each insertion with a removal event in the tree traversal structure, so state changes are reversible via rollback. 7. When reaching a query node, read dp[p] where p is the budget.

The answer is the maximum value in dp[0..p], so we take the best achievable within budget. 8. After processing children, rollback all dp changes made at this node before returning.

This restores the DP state for sibling branches.

Why it works

The correctness relies on the fact that each root-to-node path represents exactly the set of items present in that store version. DFS traversal ensures we temporarily apply exactly those items. Since knapsack transitions are reversible via rollback (we store previous dp states for modified entries or use an auxiliary stack), each branch sees a clean state corresponding to its version. The invariant is that at every node, dp encodes exactly the multiset of items in that store, and no other items.
