Each tower has a fixed damage value and a position. A tower only contributes damage to a path cell if that cell lies within a Euclidean circle centered at the tower, where the radius is something we are allowed to choose for that tower. The catch is that choosing radius is not free in terms of structure: if we set a tower’s radius to some integer r greater than zero, then we must also increase the enemy’s initial health by 3^r, and each integer r can be used for at most one tower.
So increasing a radius is a tradeoff: it expands the set of path cells that a tower can hit, but it also increases the enemy’s health by an exponentially large amount. The objective is to choose radii for some towers so that the total damage along the path is always enough to kill the enemy, and we want to maximize the base health h that can still be fully defeated.

The real difficulty is that we are selecting a subset of radii values, each used at most once, under a knapsack-like interaction.

In that case, choosing any r > 0 only increases enemy health without increasing damage, so the optimal answer becomes 0. A naive solution that always tries to assign some radius greedily would incorrectly output a positive value in such cases.
Another corner situation is overlapping towers whose coverage sets are identical for many small radii. Treating each tower independently can lead to overcounting possible gains because radii are globally unique resources, not per tower choices.
Approaches
A direct brute force approach would assign to each tower either no radius or some integer r, then compute the resulting coverage on every path cell and check whether total damage exceeds total health increase. This is clearly exponential in both k and the number of possible radii values, since each tower has multiple discrete choices. Even if we cap r by path diameter (at most 100), this still leads to a branching factor of about 100^k, which is completely infeasible.
The key structural insight is that each radius r defines a monotone expansion: as r increases, a tower covers a superset of path cells. That means for a fixed tower, only the incremental change between r and r-1 matters. We can think of assigning a radius r as selecting the marginal contribution at level r, while paying cost 3^r. This turns each tower into a sequence of “items” indexed by r, but with a global constraint that each r can be used only once across all towers.
This is the point where the problem becomes a layered selection problem: for each r, we may choose at most one tower to receive that radius. Each such assignment gives a gain equal to the additional damage unlocked by expanding from r-1 to r.
Now the problem becomes selecting at most one item per layer r, maximizing total gain minus total cost. Algorithm Walkthrough
We now build a solution that processes geometry first, then optimizes radius selection globally.
- Extract the ordered path cells by scanning the grid and collecting all cells marked '#'. This gives a sequence of positions visited in time order.

- We now perform a global selection over radii. For each radius r, we choose at most one tower to assign this radius. If we assign r to tower i, we gain its marginal damage contribution at r and pay cost 3^r in enemy health.
- We run dynamic programming over radii. At step r, we consider transitioning from previous state by either skipping r or assigning r to one tower that has nonzero marginal gain.
- The DP state tracks the best achievable net advantage (damage minus added health) after processing all radii.
The final answer is the maximum base health h such that total damage minus radius cost is still nonnegative, which corresponds directly to the maximum feasible h.
Why it works
Each radius contributes independently except for the constraint that it can only be used once. By converting geometric influence into per-radius marginal gains, we ensure that every valid configuration corresponds to selecting a set of disjoint radius assignments. The DP enforces this exclusivity exactly once per r, so no invalid reuse occurs. Since coverage is monotone in r, marginal decomposition preserves correctness: no damage is double-counted and no configuration is missed.
