This means any path not involving $X$ remains unchanged, and any path involving $X$ changes in a very specific way: every time a path enters or leaves $X$, one adjacent edge gets multiplied by $K$.
This transforms the effect of the query into a vertex-centric perturbation. Instead of recomputing all pairwise distances, we can think in terms of rooted contributions: each subtree of $X$ contributes a "best downward path" value, and scaling affects only edges connecting $X$ to its neighbors.
The crucial idea is to precompute, for every vertex, the two largest downward distances into its subtrees. Then for each query, we adjust only the edges adjacent to $X$, recompute the best two contributions around $X$, and update a global candidate diameter using precomputed information from elsewhere in the tree. The rest of the tree remains unaffected, so we can reuse stored best path values.
The problem reduces to maintaining a dynamic set of at most $deg(X)$ values per query, but since we only touch adjacency lists, the amortized work per query is proportional to degree. With careful preprocessing of subtree heights and rerooting DP, each query becomes $O(deg(X))$ or effectively $O(\log N)$ on average.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Root the tree at an arbitrary node, say node 1, and compute parent-child relationships. This allows us to define subtree structures and compute downward path contributions consistently.
- Perform a DFS to compute for each node the longest downward path starting from it into its subtree. This value represents the best distance we can travel if we go from the node into one of its children and continue downward.

- For a query $(X, K)$, adjust the weights of all edges incident to $X$ by multiplying them by $K$. Instead of rebuilding the tree, recompute only the downward contributions from $X$'s neighbors using the modified weights.
- Re-evaluate candidate diameters involving $X$: any path whose maximum value changes must pass through $X$, because all other paths remain unchanged. Combine the two best updated contributions at $X$ to form a candidate diameter.
- The answer for the query is the maximum of the unchanged global diameter and all new candidate diameters involving $X$.
Why it works
The diameter of a tree is always realized by either a path entirely contained in one region of unchanged structure or a path that crosses the modified vertex $X$. Since only edges incident to $X$ change, all distances between nodes not passing through $X$ remain identical to the original tree. Any path that changes must pass through $X$, and such paths decompose into at most two independent downward contributions from $X$'s neighbors. The rerooting DP ensures these contributions are already known, so updating them locally preserves correctness without recomputing global structure.
