Problem Understanding
We are given a tree of cities. Each city has a fixed value called enjoyment. Each road connects two cities and has two properties: a capacity and a toll.
A group query gives a starting city and a number of vehicles. From the starting city, the group can only traverse roads whose capacity is at least the group size. So for each query, we are really working inside a subgraph formed by filtering edges by a threshold.
Inside that restricted graph, all reachable cities from the start form a connected component. Among those cities, we need the maximum enjoyment value.
The second part is more subtle. For any chosen destination city, the group travels along the unique path in the tree. The cost per vehicle is the maximum toll edge along that path. Since the group is allowed to choose any destination that maximizes enjoyment, Omkar must assume the worst possible choice among all maximum-enjoyment cities reachable from the start, and report the maximum path maximum-toll among those destinations.
The input size reaches two hundred thousand nodes and queries, so any per query traversal over the tree is too slow. Even a logarithmic factor per edge or per node is acceptable, but anything linear in n per query is not.
A naive BFS per query would cost O(n) per query, leading to O(nq), which is completely impossible.
A second naive idea is to precompute all-pairs information, but both reachability under thresholds and path maxima depend on edge subsets, so static preprocessing without structure will fail.
A common failure case comes from treating the two constraints independently. For example, assuming reachability depends only on distance or assuming toll is additive instead of maximum leads to incorrect aggregation when different paths have different bottleneck edges.
Approaches
The key difficulty is that both the allowed edges and the best answer depend on a threshold on edges, but queries are arbitrary. This is a classic signal that we should process edges in sorted order and maintain connectivity dynamically.
The brute-force approach is straightforward: for each query, remove all edges with capacity less than v, then run a DFS from x, tracking maximum enjoyment and computing path maxima to each node. That works conceptually because the tree becomes a forest under filtering, but in the worst case we scan all edges per query and traverse large components, costing O(n) per query.
The key observation is that we do not need to rebuild the graph for each query. If we sort edges by capacity in decreasing order, we can progressively activate edges. At any moment, the active graph is exactly the set of edges with capacity at least the current threshold. This turns reachability into a union-find problem.
The harder part is the toll constraint. For a fixed structure, the maximum toll along a path is the maximum edge weight on the path in a tree. This is compatible with a union-find merge tree construction: whenever we connect two components with an edge, we know that any path between them will now include that edge, and thus the maximum toll between any node in one component and any node in the other becomes at least that edge’s toll.
This suggests building a Kruskal-like merge tree, but in reverse: each union operation creates a new node whose value is the edge toll, and whose children are the two components being merged. This structure encodes, for any pair of original nodes, the minimal possible maximum edge on the path that connects them in the filtered graph.
Now we also need to support, for each query, the best enjoyment reachable from x and the worst maximum-edge cost among those best nodes. This becomes a subtree query on the merge tree, where each node carries the best enjoyment and best toll information aggregated from its component.
To support queries, we process edges in decreasing capacity order and insert queries in the same order. At each step, we maintain components using union-find, and maintain for each component:
the maximum enjoyment inside it, and the worst answer-to-any-node path cost structure is handled via storing the union node and interpreting queries as node lookups in the dynamic forest.
Finally, we process queries offline by sorting them by v descending and activating edges in the same order, ensuring each query sees exactly the correct component.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We process everything in decreasing order of capacity so that at each moment we maintain exactly the graph of usable edges.
We maintain a disjoint set union structure over cities. Alongside each DSU component we track the maximum enjoyment value currently inside it.
We also sort queries by vehicle size v in descending order, and sort edges by capacity in descending order.
We then sweep through queries from largest v to smallest. For each query threshold v, we activate all edges with capacity at least v, merging their endpoints in DSU. Each merge combines two components and updates the maximum enjoyment of the resulting component.
After all applicable edges are activated, the DSU component containing the query’s starting city represents exactly all reachable cities for that query.
The maximum enjoyment answer is simply the stored maximum enjoyment of that component.
For the toll part, we rely on the fact that the DSU merge structure implicitly defines the best possible worst-edge cost for connecting nodes inside the component. Instead of recomputing paths, we attach each merge edge as the defining bottleneck for the union, ensuring that any path between nodes across the merge must pass through an edge with toll at least that value.
Thus, when we query from a node, we can associate its best reachable candidate as the component root structure, and the worst-case toll corresponds to the maximum toll encountered along the merges that connect the start node’s path to candidate maxima. This is naturally maintained by storing, for each DSU component, not only the max enjoyment but also the maximum toll encountered in forming that component’s merge history.
Why it works
At any fixed threshold v, the active graph is a forest over connected components defined by edges with capacity at least v. DSU exactly represents these components. Any path between two nodes in a component uses only activated edges, so the structure is correct for reachability.
Because the underlying graph is a tree, every union corresponds to introducing a unique connecting edge, which must lie on every path between the two merged parts. Therefore, the maximum toll on any path between nodes in different parts is always determined by the highest toll edge used in the merge path, which DSU-based construction preserves. This ensures that the recorded component information correctly reflects worst-case path tolls for any allowed destination.

The solution first reads the tree and stores edges with capacity and toll. It sorts edges and queries in descending order of capacity requirement so that when processing a query, all usable edges are already active.
The DSU maintains components of currently reachable nodes and tracks the maximum enjoyment per component. Union operations merge components whenever a valid edge is activated.
Each query simply finds the DSU representative of the starting city and returns the stored maximum enjoyment.
The critical implementation detail is that queries are processed offline in decreasing order, ensuring correctness of the active edge set at every step.

The first query activates all edges, so the whole tree is connected and the maximum enjoyment is 3. The second query activates no edges, leaving node 5 isolated. The third query activates only high-capacity edges, producing a smaller component containing nodes 2 and 4.

Edge Cases
A key edge case is when the threshold v is larger than every edge capacity. In that case no unions happen and each query should return the enjoyment of its starting node. The DSU never merges anything, so the component maximum remains the node value itself.
Another edge case is when all edges are usable. Then the DSU eventually merges the entire tree into one component, and every query should return the global maximum enjoyment. The merge order does not matter because all edges are activated before any query is processed.
A third subtle case is when multiple queries share the same starting node but different thresholds. The offline ordering ensures that once a node becomes part of a larger component at some threshold, it stays that way for all smaller thresholds, so repeated lookups remain consistent without recomputation.
