From these pairwise distances, we are asked to choose two pairs of vertices that do not overlap in endpoints, meaning we pick four distinct vertices, and we take the sum of the two corresponding shortest path distances. The goal is to minimize this sum.
The key object is not the graph itself, but the shortest path metric induced by it. Every answer is determined by selecting two vertex pairs, computing their shortest path distances in the current graph, and minimizing the sum under the restriction that all four endpoints are distinct.
The constraints force a dynamic setting with up to $10^5$ updates, so recomputing all-pairs shortest paths after every query is impossible. Even a single Dijkstra per query would be too slow in dense form. This immediately suggests that we are not supposed to track full distance structure, but only a very small subset of “relevant” shortest path values.
A subtle difficulty is that shortest paths are not just edge weights. A shortest path between two vertices may use multiple edges, so the smallest distances in the graph are not necessarily the smallest edge weights. This breaks any naive idea of just sorting edges and picking two smallest ones.
A second subtle point is the “four distinct vertices” condition. Even if we could identify the two smallest shortest path values, they might share endpoints. In that case the naive answer is invalid even if it is numerically minimal.

The smallest shortest path might be $1 \leftrightarrow 2$ with cost 1, and the second smallest might be $2 \leftrightarrow 3$ also with cost 1. Their sum is 2, but they share vertex 2, so they cannot be used together. A correct solution must detect this and move to the next available candidate.
Another issue is that a multi-edge shortest path can beat any single edge. For example, if edges are $1$ and $1$, a two-edge path has cost 2, which might still be relevant globally even if no direct edge of weight 2 exists.
Approaches
A brute-force method would recompute all-pairs shortest paths after each update, then try all quadruples of vertices and compute the best pairing. This is conceptually straightforward: once all distances are known, we sort all $\binom{n}{2}$ distances and try picking two disjoint pairs. However, recomputing distances itself is already prohibitive. Even a single run of Dijkstra from every vertex costs $O(n m \log n)$, and doing this $10^5$ times is far beyond limits.
The key observation is that we do not actually need the full distance structure. We only need the smallest few shortest path values in the entire graph, because the optimal answer will always come from extremely local configurations. Any candidate pair contributing to the answer must be among the smallest distances in the graph metric, otherwise it cannot participate in a minimum sum.
This reduces the problem to maintaining a small set of candidate shortest path values under edge updates. There are only two structural ways a very small shortest path can appear. One is a single edge. The other is a path of two edges, which can beat any direct edge if it uses very light edges.
So instead of global shortest paths, we maintain:
the smallest edge distances directly, and the smallest two-edge path distances formed through an intermediate vertex. From these we collect a small pool of candidate pair distances. From this pool, the answer is obtained by choosing the best two entries that do not conflict in endpoints.
The dynamic part is handled by maintaining adjacency heaps per vertex and global multisets of candidate values, updating only local structures when an edge is added or removed.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We maintain two layers of information: local structure per vertex, and global candidate shortest path values.
- For each vertex, maintain its incident edges in a structure ordered by weight. This allows us to quickly access its smallest and second smallest incident edges, which are enough to form the best two-edge path through that vertex.
- For every edge, we treat its weight as a candidate shortest path between its endpoints. This is always valid because a single edge is a valid path in the graph metric.
- For each vertex $v$, we form a candidate two-edge path using its two smallest incident edges $(v, x)$ and $(v, y)$. This creates a candidate distance $w(v,x) + w(v,y)$ corresponding to a path between $x$ and $y$. This captures the best possible shortest path that uses $v$ as a middle node.
- We maintain a global multiset of all such candidate distances, but each candidate also stores the four endpoints involved in the induced shortest path structure. This is necessary because we must later ensure we do not reuse vertices across the two chosen paths.
- After each update, only local structures around affected vertices change, so we recompute their incident-edge-based candidates and update the global multiset accordingly.
- To compute the answer, we extract a small number of best candidates from the global structure. We do not need all of them; we only need enough to ensure that at least two compatible (disjoint endpoint) candidates are found.
- We then try all combinations among these top candidates and pick the minimum sum where the four endpoints are distinct.
The reason we can restrict ourselves to a small candidate pool is that any optimal solution must be composed of globally minimal building blocks. If a candidate is not among the smallest few edge-based or two-edge-based distances, replacing it with a smaller valid candidate can only improve or preserve the answer, unless it causes vertex conflicts, in which case we still resolve within a bounded prefix of candidates.
Why it works
Every shortest path in a positive-weight graph is either a single edge or has a decomposition where its internal structure is dominated by the smallest incident edges along some vertex. This means that the globally smallest shortest path values must come from either individual edges or two-edge concatenations through a vertex with small incident edges. Since we only need two such paths, the answer is determined entirely by a very small subset of these candidates, and any other path is too large to participate in an optimal pair without increasing the sum.

The code maintains the graph explicitly and recomputes a compact candidate set after each modification. For each vertex, it uses the two lightest incident edges to generate the best two-edge path through that vertex. It also includes all direct edges as candidates.
