The constraints allow up to 1000 points. That implies about 500,000 pairwise distances. Any solution that explicitly compares all partitions is impossible because even checking all bipartitions is exponential, on the order of 2^1000. That can fail because it is easy to accidentally create two equal distances, one internal and one cross-group. A brute-force attempt would consider all ways to split the points into two groups and verify the condition. For each partition, we would compute all O(n^2) pairwise distances and store them into two sets, then check whether their intersection is empty. The number of partitions is 2^n, and each check costs O(n^2), leading to O(n^2 2^n), which is completely infeasible even for n = 30.
The key insight is that we do not actually need to analyze distances explicitly. We only need a structural property that guarantees separation between internal and cross-group distances.
The core geometric idea is that among all points, we can pick a pair that is extreme in a specific sense and use it to define a cut. A standard approach is to pick the pair with maximum squared distance. Once we fix such a pair A and B, we assign points based on which of A or B they are closer to. This creates a partition by proximity to endpoints of the diameter.
The reason this works is that any cross-group edge must “cross” the Voronoi boundary induced by the two farthest points, while internal edges stay within one side where distances are controlled by a strictly smaller geometric scale. The farthest pair enforces a global scale separation: any internal group is contained in a region where all pairwise distances are strictly less than the diameter, while cross-group distances must involve points whose projections across the diameter prevent equality with internal distances.
A more direct constructive simplification, which is what the standard solution relies on, is even simpler: pick the pair of points with maximum x-coordinate difference (or a consistent extreme ordering after rotation arguments are avoided in this problem because axis-aligned extremal choice is sufficient). Then split points by whether they are closer to one endpoint than the other in a lexicographically consistent way. This ensures that no two internal distances can match a cross-group distance because the partition is induced by a strict ordering along a separating axis defined by the extreme pair.
This reduces the problem from geometric set equality to a deterministic partition derived from a single carefully chosen pair.
