This is correct because it directly follows the definition of the query. The issue is performance. When $x = 1$, the loop touches 500000 elements. If many such queries appear, the total work becomes quadratic in the worst case. With 500000 queries, this is completely infeasible.
The key observation is that we only need a fast method when $x$ is small. If $x$ is large, the arithmetic progression is short, so brute force is actually fast. If $x$ is small, the progression is long, but the number of such small $x$ values is limited, which suggests precomputation over residues.
We introduce a threshold $B \approx \sqrt{500000}$. For all $x \le B$, we maintain auxiliary structures. For each such $x$, we maintain an array sum[x][r] representing the sum of all values at indices congruent to $r \mod x$. When we perform an update at position $i$, we update all sum[x][i % x] for $x \le B$. This costs $O(B)$ per update.
For queries with $x \le B$, we answer in O(1) using the precomputed bucket. For queries with $x > B$, we directly iterate over the progression, which is at most $N / B$.
