Each adjacent swap between positions $i$ and $i+1$ inside the segment has a cost equal to the product of the two values being swapped. The array itself never changes, so each query is independent.

The key observation is that the order of swaps does not matter for the final value we want. We only care about the largest product among swaps that are unavoidable in an optimal sorting schedule. This turns the problem into identifying, for each interval, the maximum value among certain “critical inversion edges.”

Algorithm Walkthrough

We build a segment tree where each node stores a small set of extreme values from its interval. These extremes are sufficient because any maximum product over an interval must involve at least one of the largest or smallest values present in relevant substructures.

Why it works

The algorithm relies on the invariant that any candidate swap which could become the maximum-cost swap in an optimal sorting sequence must involve elements that are maximal in some substructure of the interval decomposition. When we merge segments, we preserve exactly the values that could participate in such maximal interactions.
