Another subtle failure case is when a segment has correct min and max but is missing an internal value, such as [1, 4, 2]. Here min is 1 and max is 4, but value 3 is missing, so the segment is not good even though endpoints might suggest otherwise.

The brute force approach is straightforward. For each query, we enumerate every subsegment [x, y] inside [l, r]. Computing min and max naively inside each check takes O(n), so each query becomes O(n³) in the worst case, or O(n²) with optimization using precomputed RMQ, still far too slow for 120000 queries.

The main insight is to flip the perspective: instead of thinking about segments, we think about pairs of endpoints. A segment is good if and only if when you sort its elements, they form a contiguous interval in value space. This suggests a dual structure: every good segment corresponds to a pair of endpoints where the interval expansion process stays valid.

The key observation is that we can count good segments by fixing the left endpoint and determining how far to extend right while maintaining the property that the segment contains a continuous range of values. For a fixed left boundary, we maintain the minimum and maximum as we expand right, and track whether the range remains valid. However, doing this independently for each left is still quadratic.

The breakthrough comes from reversing roles and using a two-pointer sweep combined with a data structure that supports range queries over the permutation positions of values. We exploit the fact that in a permutation, checking whether all values in [min, max] are inside a segment reduces to checking whether the maximum position minus minimum position of those values fits inside the segment.

Edge Cases

One edge case is when the permutation is fully increasing. In this case every subsegment is good because any interval [l, r] contains exactly all values between its minimum and maximum.
