Problem Understanding
We have a fixed starting point, the handbag, and up to 24 scattered objects on a 2D plane. Lena always starts at the handbag, walks around collecting at most two objects, returns to the handbag, then repeats until every object is stored back.
The travel cost between two positions is the squared Euclidean distance. If Lena moves from point (x1, y1) to (x2, y2), the time spent is:
$(x_1-x_2)^2 + (y_1-y_2)^2$
The handbag itself never moves, so every trip starts at point 0 and ends at point 0.
A single trip can look like this:

The task is not only to compute the minimum total travel cost, but also to reconstruct one optimal sequence of trips.
The constraint n ≤ 24 immediately rules out anything factorial. Trying every possible ordering of objects would require roughly 24! permutations, which is completely impossible.
At the same time, 2^24 is around 16 million. That is large, but manageable for a carefully optimized bitmask DP in a low constant-factor language. Since each trip handles one or two objects, the problem structure naturally suggests representing "which objects are already collected" as a bitmask.
The unusual part of the problem is that the path is broken into independent trips that always return to the handbag. That destroys the usual traveling salesman structure. We do not need one giant route visiting everything exactly once. We only need to partition the objects into groups of size one or two, then choose the best order inside each group.
A subtle edge case appears when taking two objects is actually worse than taking them separately.

A greedy strategy that always pairs nearby objects would fail here.
Another dangerous case is when only one object remains uncollected.

The optimal solution pairs the first two and leaves the third alone. A buggy implementation that assumes every transition removes exactly two objects will either crash or skip valid states.
There is also a reconstruction pitfall. The DP computes only the minimum cost, but the output requires the actual sequence of trips. If parent information is not stored carefully, it becomes impossible to rebuild the route afterward.
Approaches
The brute-force idea is straightforward. We could generate every possible sequence of trips. At each step we choose one or two remaining objects, append a trip, and recurse on the remaining set.
This brute-force is correct because every valid strategy is just some partition of objects into ordered trips. The recursion eventually enumerates them all.
The problem is the number of possibilities. Even if we only count pairings, the number of ways to partition 24 objects into singles and pairs is enormous. It grows roughly like:
$\sum_{k=0}^{12} \frac{24!}{(24-2k)!,2^k,k!}$
That is far beyond what can run in 4 seconds.
The key observation is that the order between trips does not matter for future costs. Once a subset of objects has been collected, the only relevant information is exactly that subset. Lena always returns to the handbag after each trip, so there is no "current position" state.
That means we can define:
dp[mask] = minimum cost to collect all objects in mask
From a state mask, we pick one uncollected object i. Then we either:
take only i
or:
take i together with another uncollected object j
This creates transitions to larger masks.
The crucial optimization is choosing the first uncollected object only. Without this trick, every state would try all ordered pairs repeatedly. By fixing one canonical object, every transition is generated once.
The total number of states is 2^n. For each state we try at most n pairings with the first free object, so the complexity becomes roughly:
$O(n\cdot 2^n)$
That comfortably fits for n = 24 in optimized implementations.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Read the handbag coordinates and all object coordinates.
- Precompute distances between every pair of points.
The cost function uses squared Euclidean distance many times. Recomputing it inside DP transitions would waste time.
- For every object
i, precompute the cost of taking only that object:
0 -> i -> 0
This equals:
dist(0, i) + dist(i, 0)
- For every pair of objects
(i, j), precompute the cost of taking them together:
0 -> i -> j -> 0
This equals:
dist(0, i) + dist(i, j) + dist(j, 0)
- Define:
dp[mask]
as the minimum cost needed to collect exactly the objects whose bits are set in mask.
Initialize:
dp[0] = 0
because collecting nothing costs nothing.
- Iterate through all masks.
For each mask, find the first object i not yet collected.
Choosing only the first missing object avoids duplicate transitions. Every state expansion becomes unique.

Why it works
The DP invariant is:
dp[mask] = minimum possible cost to collect exactly the objects in mask
Every valid strategy reaches some previous state before its last trip. That final trip removes either one object or two objects. The transition formulas enumerate exactly those possibilities.
Because every state transition adds the exact cost of one independent trip, and because trips always start and end at the handbag, no hidden interaction exists between different trips. The optimal solution for a state depends only on smaller states, which makes dynamic programming valid.
Fixing the first uncollected object does not remove any valid solution. Every transition still appears once, just in a canonical order.

The first section builds the coordinate list. The handbag is stored at index 0, while objects are stored from 1 onward. This simplifies distance calculations because every trip naturally references point 0.
The single array stores the cost of taking one object alone. The pair matrix stores the cost of taking two objects together in a single trip. Precomputing these values removes repeated arithmetic from the DP loop.
The DP state uses a bitmask. If bit i is set, object i has already been collected. The array size is 2^n, which is feasible for n = 24.
The transition logic always selects the first uncollected object. This is the standard optimization that reduces duplicated work. Without it, every state would repeatedly generate equivalent pairings in different orders.
The reconstruction arrays are subtle. parent[new_mask] stores the previous mask, while take[new_mask] stores which objects were collected in the final trip that produced this state.
During reconstruction we walk backward from the full mask to zero. Each stored trip looks like:
0 -> objects -> 0
The reconstruction is accumulated backward, so the final list must be reversed before printing.
One easy mistake is forgetting the +1 during output. Internally objects are zero-indexed, but the problem statement uses one-indexed numbering.
Another common bug is generating pair transitions for already collected objects. The condition:
if mask & (1 << j):

prevents invalid transitions.

For n = 24, the number of states is about 16 million. The optimization of always selecting the first uncollected object keeps the transition count manageable. The memory usage also fits comfortably inside the 512 MB limit using integer arrays.
