Water starts entering from one specific cell on the top layer. From there, it spreads through empty cells in all six possible 3D directions: up, down, left, right, forward, and backward. Water cannot pass through blocked cells.
Every minute exactly one unit cube of water is added. Since water instantly spreads through all connected reachable space, the total amount of water the plate can hold is exactly the number of reachable empty cells connected to the starting position.
The task is to compute how many reachable empty cells exist.
The dimensions are all at most 10, so the entire grid contains at most:
10 × 10 × 10 = 1000
cells.
That changes the nature of the problem completely. Even algorithms with fairly large constant factors are acceptable here. A full graph traversal over all cells is trivial within the limits.
The main difficulty is not performance, but modeling the connectivity correctly in three dimensions.
Several edge cases can silently break incorrect implementations.
One common mistake is forgetting vertical movement between layers.

Approaches
The most direct way to think about the problem is literal simulation.
We could imagine water spreading minute by minute. Each time a unit of water is added, we expand into neighboring cells if possible. Eventually every reachable empty cell becomes filled, and the answer is the total number of such cells.
This idea is correct because the physical process described in the statement is exactly graph connectivity. Every empty cell reachable through adjacent empty cells eventually fills with water.
The problem with explicit time simulation is that it complicates the logic unnecessarily. We do not actually care about the order in which cells fill. We only care about the final capacity.
That observation changes the problem completely.
The plate capacity equals the size of the connected component containing the starting cell.
Once we recognize that, the task becomes a standard graph traversal problem. Each empty cell is a node. Two cells are connected if they share a face. We start from the tap position and count how many cells are reachable.
A brute-force approach could repeatedly scan the whole grid looking for newly reachable cells until no changes occur. Since the grid has at most 1000 cells, even this would probably pass, but it performs unnecessary repeated work. In the worst case, each iteration scans all cells and there may be 1000 iterations, leading to roughly 10^6 operations.
A cleaner and optimal approach is DFS or BFS. Each cell is visited once, and each adjacency is checked once.
Because the grid is tiny, either traversal works comfortably.

The input contains blank lines between layers, so we skip empty lines while reading. 3. Convert the starting coordinates from 1-based indexing to 0-based indexing.
Python lists use 0-based indexing, so failing to convert would access the wrong cell. 4. Start a DFS or BFS from the starting position on the top layer.
We only move into cells that:
- stay inside the grid,
- contain
., - have not been visited before.
- From every visited cell, explore all six directions:
- up and down between layers,
- left and right inside a row,
- forward and backward between rows.
- Count every visited cell.
Each visited empty cell represents one unit cube that can eventually contain water. 7. Print the final count.
Why it works
The traversal explores exactly the connected component of the starting cell.
Every reachable empty cell must eventually fill with water because water can flow through adjacent faces indefinitely. Every unreachable empty cell stays dry because obstacles block all possible paths from the source.
The DFS/BFS visits every reachable empty cell exactly once and never enters blocked cells. Since the answer is precisely the size of this connected component, the algorithm is correct.

The parsing step is slightly tricky because the input inserts empty lines between layers. The loop keeps reading until exactly n valid rows are collected for the current layer.
The BFS queue stores triples (layer, row, column). Since movement happens in three dimensions, all coordinates must move together.
The six direction vectors correspond to the six cube faces. Forgetting either vertical direction would incorrectly disconnect layers.
The visited array prevents revisiting cells endlessly. Without it, cycles in open space would cause infinite traversal.
The answer increments when a cell is popped from the queue. Since every reachable cell enters the queue exactly once, the final count equals the component size.
