The constraints are tight: the total number of vertices and edges over all test cases is $2 \cdot 10^5$. This rules out any approach that recomputes shortest paths per candidate interval or tries all pairs of edges as boundaries in a naive way. Anything worse than near linear or near $m \log m$ per test case will struggle.
A subtle issue comes from the fact that paths may revisit edges. A naive reader might assume we are looking for a simple path, but allowing repetition means once a “good range” of edge weights is available in a connected subgraph, we can arbitrarily traverse inside it to adjust connectivity.

If there exists a path from 1 to n using only edges whose weights lie in $[L, R]$, then we can realize a path whose cost is at most $L + R$, because the minimum edge on that path is at least $L$ and the maximum is at most $R$, and we can always ensure both endpoints appear in the path by connectivity in that filtered graph.
So the problem becomes: find a pair $(L, R)$ such that 1 and n are connected using only edges in that range, minimizing $L + R$.
Now we reverse the thinking. Instead of fixing both ends, we sort edges by weight and try to anchor the minimum edge in the solution. The final optimization is to realize we do not need to “reset per lower bound”. Instead, we process edges in increasing order and maintain a sliding window idea over DSU connectivity by using a two-pointer technique combined with persistent or incremental connectivity logic. A more direct and standard solution is to sort edges and use a DSU while considering every edge as the minimum endpoint and maintaining the smallest maximum that connects 1 and n.
Practically, we fix the maximum edge by sweeping from small to large, and maintain whether 1 and n are connected. The subtle part is extracting the best corresponding minimum, which is achieved by tracking, for each connected time, the smallest edge weight that could serve as a valid minimum within the same connectivity interval.
A clean reformulation that avoids pitfalls is:
We sort edges by weight. We maintain a DSU as we include edges in increasing order. Algorithm Walkthrough
- Sort all edges by weight in increasing order. This ensures that when we add an edge, it can only increase the current maximum boundary of any considered interval.
- Initialize a DSU where each node is its own component. Alongside each component, store the minimum edge weight that has been used to merge it into its current structure. Initially this is undefined.

- Continue processing edges, because later merges might create alternative structures with a larger maximum but significantly smaller minimum, potentially improving the sum.
Why it works
At any point in the sweep, each DSU component represents connectivity using only edges up to the current maximum weight $w$. Any path from 1 to n that uses edges ≤ $w$ is fully contained in this structure. The first moment 1 and n become connected corresponds to the smallest possible maximum edge for any valid path that only uses edges up to that threshold. Within that same construction history, tracking the minimum edge weight included in the union process captures the smallest achievable lower bound compatible with that connectivity regime. Since every candidate optimal path must correspond to some threshold where its maximum edge is introduced, the sweep guarantees we evaluate every relevant maximum exactly once, paired with the best achievable minimum under that constraint.
