Problem Understanding
The park is an undirected multigraph. Glades are vertices, trails are edges. Self-loops are allowed, and multiple edges between the same pair of vertices are also allowed.
Vasya wants to start at vertex 1, traverse every edge exactly once, and return to vertex 1. This is exactly the condition for the graph to contain an Eulerian cycle that starts from vertex 1.
For an undirected graph, an Eulerian cycle exists if and only if two conditions hold.
First, every vertex with nonzero degree belongs to the same connected component as vertex 1. Vertices with degree 0 do not matter because they never participate in the walk.
Second, every vertex has even degree.
The task is not just to check whether the graph is already Eulerian. We must compute the minimum number of edges that need to be added to make it Eulerian.
The constraints are huge. Both the number of vertices and edges can reach $10^6$. Any algorithm with quadratic behavior is impossible. Even something like running DFS from every component separately with expensive bookkeeping would struggle. We need a nearly linear solution, roughly $O(n + m)$, with careful memory usage.
Self-loops are an easy place to make mistakes. A loop contributes 2 to the degree of a vertex, not 1. Since 2 is even, loops never affect parity. A careless implementation that increments degree only once for a loop silently breaks the answer.
Disconnected isolated vertices are another trap. Consider:

Vertices 3 and 4 are isolated. They do not matter at all because no trail touches them. The graph effectively consists only of the edge $1-2$. Degrees are odd at both endpoints, so we need one extra edge. The correct answer is:

One edge can merge two components while flipping parity at two chosen vertices. Managing connectivity and parity simultaneously is the core difficulty of the problem.
Approaches
The brute-force way to think about the problem is to repeatedly add edges trying all possible pairs of vertices until the graph becomes Eulerian. After every modification, we could check connectivity and degree parity.
The checking itself is linear, but the number of possible edge additions is quadratic. Even trying all single edges already costs $O(n^2)$, which is hopeless for $10^6$ vertices. Worse, the optimal sequence may require several additions, creating an exponential search space.
The graph-theoretic characterization of Eulerian cycles gives a much stronger direction. We do not care about the exact walk. We only care about two global properties:
- All non-isolated vertices must lie in one connected component with vertex 1.
- Every degree must be even.
Adding one edge always flips the parity of exactly two vertices. At the same time, it can merge two connected components.
That interaction is the key insight. Connecting components is not independent from fixing parity. A carefully chosen connecting edge can simultaneously reduce the number of components and repair odd degrees.
Suppose a connected component contains $k$ odd-degree vertices. Internally, making it Eulerian would require $k/2$ added edges. But when we connect components together, the connecting edges also change parity. This creates a global optimization problem.
A clean way to think about it is component by component.
If a component already has odd vertices, we can use some of them as connection endpoints. Then connecting the component to others helps fix parity "for free".
If a component has all even degrees, any connection edge creates two odd vertices, so we later need one more parity correction somewhere. Such a component effectively contributes an extra cost.
Let:
- $C$ be the number of connected components containing at least one edge, plus possibly the isolated vertex 1 if it is separate.
- $O$ be the total number of odd-degree vertices across those relevant components.
The minimal answer turns out to be:

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Build a DSU over all vertices while reading edges.
Every edge joins two vertices into the same connected component. At the same time, compute the degree of every vertex. A self-loop increases degree by 2. 2. Identify all connected components that contain at least one edge.
Isolated vertices other than vertex 1 are irrelevant because Vasya never needs to visit them. 3. If the graph has no edges at all, return 0.
Vasya already starts and ends at vertex 1 without traversing anything. 4. For every relevant component, count how many vertices inside it have odd degree.
Eulerian parity depends only on these odd vertices. 5. If vertex 1 belongs to no edge-containing component, treat it as its own additional component with zero odd vertices.
Otherwise Vasya cannot even reach the trails. 6. For each relevant component, add:

to the answer accumulator.
A component with odd vertices needs at least odd/2 repairs. A component with all even degrees still needs at least one edge to connect it to the rest of the graph. 7. Subtract 1 from the total.
Connecting $k$ separate structures together requires only $k-1$ linking operations because one component can serve as the base.
Why it works
Inside a connected component, the minimum number of added edges required to make all degrees even is exactly half the number of odd vertices.
When several components exist, connecting them also changes parity. A connecting edge can consume one odd vertex from each side, effectively repairing parity while merging components.
If a component already has odd vertices, we can always use them as attachment points. Its cost remains odd/2.
If a component has no odd vertices, any attachment creates new odd vertices, so at least one added edge is unavoidable for that component.
Summing $\max(1, \text{odd}/2)$ over all relevant components counts the independent cost of fixing each component. Since all components are ultimately merged into one graph, one connection operation becomes shared globally, so subtracting 1 gives the exact optimum.

The DSU maintains connected components in almost constant amortized time. With up to one million edges, recursive DFS is risky because Python recursion depth and stack memory become problematic. DSU avoids that completely.
Degree handling is the most delicate part. A self-loop contributes 2 to the same vertex because traversing the loop enters and leaves the vertex once.
Only vertices with nonzero degree matter for ordinary components. Isolated vertices never participate in an Euler tour. The only exception is vertex 1. If all trails lie elsewhere, we must explicitly connect vertex 1 into the graph, so its component becomes relevant even with degree 0.
The formula uses integer division because the number of odd vertices in any undirected graph component is always even.
Subtracting 1 at the end is easy to forget. The sum counts the cost of each component independently, but after merging everything together, one connection operation overlaps globally.
