So the state is not one deck, but a growing set of possible decks. We only track, across all these possible outcomes, which indices the joker could be at after each operation, and output the size of that set.

The constraints are the key signal here. The deck size n can be as large as 10^9, so we cannot simulate the deck or maintain explicit structures indexed by position. The number of operations per test is up to 2·10^5 total across tests, which forces an O(q) or O(q log q) per test solution at worst. Anything involving rebuilding arrays or simulating permutations is immediately impossible.

The main subtlety is that each operation branches into two possibilities, so a naive state explosion over 2^q configurations is completely infeasible. Even tracking full sets of positions for the joker would require O(n) memory, which is also impossible since n is huge.

A few failure modes appear in naive reasoning.

One common mistake is to assume the joker’s position is always a single interval that just expands. For example, if the joker starts at m=3 in a small deck and we repeatedly move cards around it, it is tempting to assume its possible positions remain a continuous segment without carefully maintaining boundaries influenced by how many elements can shift from left or right.

Another mistake is to treat each operation independently, ignoring the fact that earlier operations already determine which side of the joker the moved elements could end up on, and that this accumulates asymmetrically.

Approaches

The brute-force idea is straightforward: maintain the entire deck, and at each operation branch into two decks, one where the selected element goes to the front and one where it goes to the back. For each resulting deck, track the joker’s position. After q operations, collect all possible joker positions.

This is correct in principle because it explores every valid sequence of choices. However, each operation doubles the number of states. After q operations we have 2^q states, and even for q around 40 this becomes impossible. Here q can be up to 2·10^5, so this approach fails immediately.

The key observation is that we never actually care about the full permutation of the deck, only how many elements can end up before or after the joker. Each operation affects the joker only if the chosen position lies to its left or right in some realization, and the only thing that matters is how many positions can "cross over" the joker across all possible branches.

Instead of tracking full permutations, we track a range of possible counts of elements that could be on the left side of the joker. Each operation expands or contracts this range depending on whether the removed element could be on either side in different scenarios, and inserting at front or back shifts relative ordering in a predictable way.

The core reduction is that the joker’s possible positions always form a contiguous interval, and we only need to maintain its left and right endpoints. Each operation updates these endpoints in O(1), based on whether the removed index lies strictly left, strictly right, or potentially both across the current uncertainty interval.

This reduces the problem from exponential state explosion to a linear scan maintaining interval bounds.
