Approaches
The brute-force view is to consider every possible subset of vertices across all trees. For each chosen subset, we would compute the OR of their subtree sizes and take the maximum. This is correct because it directly follows the definition: every deletion sequence corresponds to choosing some set of subtrees, and OR is commutative so order does not matter.
However, this approach fails immediately because the number of subsets is exponential in the number of nodes. With up to one million vertices, even storing all subtree sizes is fine, but enumerating subsets would require 2^n operations, which is infeasible.
The structural simplification comes from recognizing that subtree sizes are fixed properties of nodes and do not depend on deletion order. More importantly, any node can be chosen independently as a candidate deletion because deleting a subtree does not prevent us from having conceptually chosen its size earlier in the sequence; the OR operation only aggregates values.
Thus the entire forest contributes a multiset of values, one per node: the subtree size of that node. The problem becomes selecting any subset of these values to maximize their bitwise OR.
Now the key observation is that in a bitwise OR maximization problem where all elements are independently selectable, the optimal strategy is simply to take all available values. Adding more numbers can never reduce an OR, and there is no constraint that prevents selecting all nodes, because even though deletions overlap in a real process, the value collection does not require disjointness in terms of contribution. Every node’s subtree size can be included once by choosing that node at the moment it is considered as a deletion.
This reduces the problem to computing subtree sizes for all nodes across all trees and then OR-ing them together.
The only remaining task is efficient subtree size computation, which can be done with a single DFS per tree.

Algorithm Walkthrough
