A segment of the array is considered valid if its length is at least three and if all numbers in that segment can serve as side lengths of some polygon with exactly that many sides. The geometric condition is the natural generalization of the triangle inequality: the sum of all sides must be strictly greater than each individual side. Equivalently, if we sort the segment, the condition is that the largest element is strictly less than the sum of the rest.
For each query of type one, we must look inside a fixed range and find the longest subsegment that satisfies this polygon condition. For type two queries, we update a single element.
The constraint structure is the real difficulty. The total size across test cases is only up to 2·10^5, but the number of queries is also large, up to 10^5. This rules out anything that recomputes segment validity from scratch for every query. Even O(n) per query is already too slow, and anything involving sorting per query or per candidate segment is immediately impossible.
A subtle difficulty is that validity is not monotone in a simple way over subarrays. A longer segment can become invalid even if all shorter ones inside it are valid, because adding a large element can break the global sum condition. Conversely, a segment might only become valid after including a carefully chosen small element that compensates for a large maximum.
A small edge case that exposes naive reasoning is this: consider [10, 1, 1, 1]. The segment of length 4 is invalid since 10 is too large. But there are valid subsegments like [1,1,1]. A naive approach that only checks full ranges would miss them. Another failure case is [5, 4, 4, 1], where the full segment is valid but removing the wrong endpoint destroys validity, so greedy shrinking without structure can fail.
The key takeaway is that the problem is asking for a maximum-length subarray satisfying a global inequality constraint under point updates, which strongly suggests maintaining some form of ordered structure over the segment values.
Approaches
The brute-force idea is straightforward. For each query, enumerate all subsegments inside [l, r], compute whether each is a polygonal segment by checking the polygon inequality, and track the maximum length. Each check requires either summing the segment and finding its maximum or sorting it. Even if we maintain prefix sums for the sum, we still need to know the maximum element efficiently. This leads to O(n^2) segments per query, and O(1) or O(log n) work per segment check depending on preprocessing. In total this becomes O(n^2) per query in the worst case, which is completely infeasible.
The important structural observation is that the polygon condition depends only on the largest element and the total sum. If we define the deficit of a segment as max(a) - (sum of others), then a segment is valid exactly when this deficit is negative. This turns the problem into maintaining range maximum and range sum simultaneously.
We now want, for each query range, the longest subarray whose total sum is strictly greater than twice its maximum minus itself. A more convenient rearrangement is that if M is the maximum in the segment and S is the sum, then validity is S > M, or more precisely S - M > M, which simplifies to S > 2M for a two-element interpretation mistake, but for polygons the correct form is S > M? No, we must be precise: for k sides, condition is S > M, since M < S - M is not correct; the correct inequality is M < S - M only for triangle case generalized incorrectly. The correct polygon condition is S > 2M is wrong; instead we must directly use M < S - M only when thinking triangle-like. The correct general condition remains: M < S - M is equivalent to 2M < S. However for k-sided polygon, it is still the same inequality: the largest side must be less than the sum of all others, so M < S - M, hence 2M < S. So validity becomes S > 2M.
Thus every segment check becomes a comparison between sum and maximum, which are classic segment tree queries.
We still need the longest valid segment inside a query range. This is a classic “maximum window with constraint under point updates” problem, and the key is to turn it into a monotonic two-pointer structure assisted by a segment tree.
We fix a left boundary and try to extend the right boundary while maintaining validity. However, updates destroy global monotonicity, so we need a structure that supports dynamic range queries. A segment tree that maintains both sum and maximum allows us to check validity of any candidate interval in O(log n). Then we can binary search the right endpoint for each left endpoint, but that would still be O(n log n) per query.
The real improvement is to reverse the perspective: instead of searching for the longest valid segment, we maintain the set of all invalid segments by tracking where S <= 2M becomes tight. Using divide and conquer on the segment tree, we can maintain for each node the best valid segment entirely inside it, and merge children carefully by checking cross-boundary segments. This is the standard structure for problems where the validity of a segment depends only on aggregate statistics that are mergeable.
At a high level, each segment tree node stores:
the maximum valid segment length inside it, plus enough information to merge across boundaries, specifically prefix/suffix candidates and their sum and maximum behavior. This allows query answers in logarithmic time per node traversal, while updates recompute only O(log n) nodes.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Build a segment tree where each node stores the sum and maximum of its interval, because validity depends only on these two aggregates. This allows us to test any interval in logarithmic time.
- Extend each node’s information to also track the best valid subarray length fully contained in that segment. This value is computed during merges.
- When merging two child nodes, first propagate their sums and maxima to compute the parent’s aggregate values. Then compute the best answer entirely inside the left or right child.
- To handle subarrays crossing the boundary, consider suffixes of the left child and prefixes of the right child. For each candidate split point, we need to determine the longest valid combination. This is done by maintaining prefix structures that allow us to query sum and maximum efficiently.
- During a merge, use a two-pointer style sweep over prefix candidates of the left and right children, but guided by precomputed segment tree queries so each feasibility check is O(1) or O(log n). The goal is to maximize combined length while preserving the condition
S > 2M. - For updates, modify a single leaf and recompute all affected nodes up to the root.
- For a query
[l, r], traverse the segment tree and combine only nodes that fully or partially overlap the range, maintaining the same merge logic. The final stored best value is the answer.
Why it works
The correctness relies on the fact that any candidate segment is either fully contained in a single segment tree node or can be decomposed into a suffix of a left node and a prefix of a right node. Since sum and maximum are both associative and maintainable under merging, every validity check depends only on information stored at nodes. The merge procedure exhaustively considers all boundary-crossing segments implicitly through prefix-suffix combinations, so no valid segment can be missed, and no invalid segment can be counted since every candidate is explicitly verified against the inequality.
