More concretely, we need the smallest l such that everything left of l is already consistent with sorted order, and the largest r such that everything right of r is also consistent.

This can be reframed as a query on order statistics: we need to find the first and last positions where the array differs from its sorted structure, but we must maintain this dynamically under updates.

The crucial structural insight is that the answer is determined by two things: the prefix condition where no inversion should appear before l, and the suffix condition where no inversion should appear after r. These can be tracked using ordered data structures that maintain local ordering constraints efficiently.

A standard way to achieve this is to maintain all indices in a balanced structure keyed by value and index, allowing us to quickly find where sorted order is violated. The boundary is determined by the first position where a predecessor relation breaks and the last such position.

With a suitable ordered set or segment tree maintaining local order consistency, each update affects only a small neighborhood of comparisons, but querying global extremes can be done in logarithmic time.

We maintain the array and a structure that tracks where the order property a[i] <= a[i+1] holds or fails.

Why it works

The array becomes sorted after fixing a subarray if and only if all inversions lie completely inside that subarray. Any inversion is witnessed by a pair of adjacent violations in diff, so covering all zero entries in diff is equivalent to covering all inversions.
