We are given a directed structure over positions 1 to n, where each position carries a value. The key restriction is that movement from one position to another is not arbitrary: you are only allowed to move forward in index order, and only along positions whose values satisfy a strict ordering condition. Each query asks whether it is possible to travel from one position ui to another position vi using a sequence of valid forward moves, and sometimes also asks for the minimum number of such moves.
The difficulty comes from the fact that reachability is not purely about index order or value order alone. A valid path must simultaneously respect both constraints, and intermediate nodes are further restricted depending on the starting value of the segment. This creates a hybrid structure where edges are not explicitly given but implied through a complicated rule.
From a complexity standpoint, n and q are up to 300000. That immediately rules out any solution that attempts to explicitly build edges or run a fresh graph search per query. Even a single BFS per query would cost O(nq), which is far beyond feasible.
A more subtle issue is that the “valid intermediate nodes” condition depends on the starting node of the transfer. This means the graph is not static in the usual sense: whether an edge exists depends on context, not just endpoints. Any naive preprocessing that assumes a fixed adjacency list will fail.
A small example of the pitfall is when nodes look locally reachable but are globally blocked by intermediate constraints. Suppose we have indices 1, 2, 3 with values 5, 1, 6 and a small d. Even if 1 can go to 3 in index terms and value terms, the presence of 2 can invalidate the required intermediate chain because its value is not less than the starting value.
Approaches
A brute force solution would attempt to explicitly determine reachability for each query by simulating all possible valid chains. For a given start node, we would try every possible next step within distance d, recursively continuing while checking value constraints for intermediate nodes. This quickly degenerates into exploring a large portion of the graph per query.
In the worst case, each node can branch into O(d) next candidates, and the depth can be O(n), leading to exponential behavior in practice. Even if carefully implemented as BFS or DFS, the total work across all queries becomes O(nq), which is impossible at the given limits.
The key structural insight is that although the constraints look like a general graph problem, the ordering by index and the strict inequality on values force a monotonic behavior. Once we fix a starting node, only a specific region of nodes can ever act as intermediates, and these regions can be preprocessed in a way that removes per-query graph traversal.
The constraint involving “jump distance at most d” also suggests that edges are local in index space. This turns the problem into one where connectivity is determined by merging local windows of size d under a compatibility rule. This is exactly where disjoint set union combined with ordered processing becomes useful: we can progressively connect indices that can safely reach each other under the constraints, while ensuring we never revisit expensive traversal per query.
The final solution reduces the dynamic reachability question into static connectivity queries over a carefully constructed union-find structure.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Sort or process nodes in a way that respects their value ordering, since valid transitions depend on comparisons between ai values. This allows us to avoid repeatedly checking value constraints during graph exploration.
- Maintain a disjoint set union structure over indices. Initially each position is isolated because no transitions are assumed.
- Sweep through nodes in increasing order of their value. When processing a node i, consider all possible forward connections within index distance d that satisfy the value constraint relative to ai. These are the only candidates that can become part of a valid chain starting from i.
- For each valid candidate j within this window, merge i and j in DSU if the constraints allow a direct or indirect valid connection. The DSU captures the idea that once two nodes are connected under the constraints, they belong to the same reachable component for relevant queries.
- After preprocessing all unions, answer each query by checking whether ui and vi belong to the same DSU component. If they do, a valid chain exists; otherwise, it does not.
- For queries requiring the minimum number of transfers, additional preprocessing over the DSU component can store depth or representative distances, allowing retrieval of shortest chain length within the same connected structure.
Why it works:
The DSU maintains an invariant that two indices are in the same set if and only if there exists a sequence of valid constrained transitions connecting them. The sweep over values ensures that when we consider a node, all possible future connections are resolved in a consistent order, preventing backward invalidation. Since all constraints depend only on local index distance and value ordering, once connectivity is established it cannot later be broken by processing other nodes.

Edge Cases
