Algorithm Walkthrough

We treat each Pokémon as a node in a graph. We want the minimum cost to reach node n starting from node 1.

the upgrade needed is max(0, a_{i,k} - a_{j,k}), because j must match or exceed i in attribute k.

total cost is dist[i] + c_j + upgrade_cost.

At any point, a state represents the cheapest way to reach a Pokémon i as the current arena fighter. Any valid transition to j must choose some attribute k. The cost decomposition is additive: hiring cost plus only the missing strength in that attribute. Because upgrades are permanent, it never helps to “overpay” in a dominated attribute when a closer candidate exists in sorted order. This ensures that exploring transitions along sorted chains captures all optimal improvements, and Dijkstra guarantees global optimality once all edge relaxations are consistent.
