Approaches
A brute-force idea is straightforward. We try every choice of three distinct days x, y, z and compute a_x + b_y + c_z. This is correct because it enumerates all valid assignments, but it is far too slow. With n up to 100,000, the number of triples is about n^3, which is on the order of 10^15 operations in the worst case.
We need to reduce the problem structure. The key observation is that the only coupling between choices is index equality. If we could ignore collisions, we would simply take the maximum of each array independently. The entire difficulty is ensuring that the same index is not used more than once.
This suggests a structural reframe: instead of thinking of three independent maxima, we think in terms of how many of the chosen values come from overlapping indices.
There are only a few meaningful structural cases:
We either use three different indices for the best candidates, or some of the best values conflict on indices and we must “shift” one of them to a second-best option. Since conflicts only matter among top candidates, we only need to inspect a small number of best elements per array.
A standard way to capture this is to take the top few candidates from each array (say top 3 or top 5), and try all combinations of picking one element from each list while ensuring indices are distinct. This works because any optimal solution must involve elements that are among the highest few in their respective arrays. If a chosen element were far down the ranking in its array, replacing it with a higher unused one would only improve or preserve the answer.
Thus we reduce the problem to checking a constant-size candidate set.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- For each of the three arrays, pair each value with its index and sort in descending order of value. This allows us to quickly identify the strongest candidates while keeping track of their positions.
- Extract the top k elements from each array, where k is a small constant such as 3 or 5. The purpose is to ensure we do not miss any optimal combination, even if it involves avoiding index collisions among the very best elements.
- Try all combinations of picking one element from the top-k list of each array. For each triple, check whether the three chosen indices are distinct. If they are not, discard the combination.
- For valid combinations, compute the sum of the three values and track the maximum.
- Output the best value found.
The reason enumeration is safe here is that any optimal solution must use elements that are close to the top of their respective arrays. If an element is not in the top few of its array, it can be replaced by a better candidate unless that replacement causes a collision, in which case that collision is resolved by switching to another nearby top candidate. This locality is what makes a constant-size search sufficient.
Why it works
The correctness relies on the fact that we only ever need to resolve conflicts between the highest-value candidates. Since each array is independent except for index collisions, an optimal solution is formed by three high-ranked elements. If a solution used an element outside the top k of its array, replacing it with a higher-ranked unused option would never reduce the total unless it creates an index collision, and resolving that collision only requires considering a small neighborhood of top candidates. This bounds the search space to a constant region of each array’s sorted prefix.

The nested loops only iterate over at most 3 × 3 × 3 combinations, which keeps the solution fast even under maximum input size. The correctness depends on preserving indices during sorting so that we can reject invalid overlaps.
