Specifically, we can represent the state at each railway by a set of intervals [start_time, end_time] in which Isona can arrive without conflict. Moving from railway i to railway i+1, we consider all pairs of intervals from railway i to i+1. For each pair, we compute the earliest time she can arrive at the next railway, possibly waiting to avoid trains. If she adjusts her speed between these intervals, we count one speed change. At the end, the minimal speed changes among all valid intervals on the last railway that arrive before s gives the answer.

Algorithm Walkthrough

  1. Preprocess the trains to create a list of blocked intervals for each railway. Each railway will store its intervals as (a_i, b_i) sorted by start time. We add 0 and s as artificial boundaries to simplify DP calculations.

If this requires a change in speed (i.e., time spent is different from maximum speed traversal), increment the speed change count by 1.
  5. After processing all railways, examine the last railway's safe intervals. For each interval that allows arriving at the platform before s, take the minimum speed change count among them. If none exist, output -1.
  6. Output the result.

Why it works: At each railway, the DP state records the minimal speed changes to reach any safe interval. Since transitions only consider safe intervals and minimal speed adjustments, we never underestimate the number of changes needed. By propagating from the first to the last railway, we ensure every possible combination of waiting and speed change is considered.
