Problem Understanding
For any array segment, we process its elements from left to right and maintain a list of subsequences.
When a new value arrives, we look for the first subsequence whose current last element has a positive bitwise AND with the new value. If such a subsequence exists, we append the value there and update that subsequence's last element. Otherwise we create a brand new subsequence.
Let $f(segment)$ be the final number of subsequences created by this procedure.
The task is to sum $f$ over every subarray of the given array.
The array length reaches $3 \cdot 10^5$, so there are about $4.5 \cdot 10^{10}$ subarrays. Any algorithm that evaluates subarrays individually is hopeless. Even an $O(n^2)$ solution is completely out of range. We need something close to linear time.
The unusual constraint is that every array value belongs to ${0,1,2,3}$. The whole solution comes from exploiting how tiny this value set is.
A first subtle case is the value $0$. A zero can never be appended to an existing subsequence because $x & 0 = 0$ for every $x$. Every zero always creates a new subsequence.
For example:
[0, 0]
The decomposition creates two subsequences, so $f=2$.
Another subtle case is that the algorithm always chooses the first compatible subsequence, not an arbitrary one.
For example:
[1, 2, 3]
After processing $1,2$, the active subsequences are:
[1]
[2]
When $3$ arrives, it is appended to the first subsequence because $1 & 3 > 0$. Choosing the second one would produce a different state and a wrong answer.
A third trap is that only the current last element of each subsequence matters. Earlier elements never influence future decisions.
For example:
[1,3,2]
The first subsequence becomes $[1,3,2]$. Future decisions depend only on the final value $2$, not on the earlier $1,3$.
Approaches
The brute force idea is straightforward.
Choose a starting position $l$. Extend the right endpoint $r$ one step at a time. Maintain the decomposition of $a[l..r]$ and track how many subsequences currently exist.
This is correct because it directly simulates the definition.
The problem is complexity. There are $O(n^2)$ subarrays. Even if each extension were $O(1)$, the total work would still be quadratic, which is far too large for $n=3\cdot10^5$.
The key observation is that values are restricted to ${0,1,2,3}$.
Consider the decomposition state at some moment. Future decisions only depend on the last element of every currently "usable" subsequence.
Subsequences ending in $0$ are special. They can never accept any future value, because $0 & x = 0$ for all $x$. Once a subsequence ends in $0$, it becomes irrelevant for future transitions.
So we only need to remember the last values of nonzero subsequences.
Those values belong to ${1,2,3}$. If we repeatedly apply the first-compatible-subsequence rule, only a tiny number of states can ever appear. In fact, there are only 16 reachable states. This is the crucial compression. The original process looks complicated, but its entire future behavior is determined by one of only 16 possible states. This idea is exactly the basis of the official solution.
Once the state space is constant, we can perform dynamic programming over positions and states.

Algorithm Walkthrough
Let a state be the ordered list of last values of all nonzero subsequences.
Examples:

There are only 16 reachable states.
Define a transition function:
go(state, x)
which processes one new value.
If $x=0$, a new subsequence is always created, but the state does not change because zero-ending subsequences are never useful later.
If $x>0$, scan the state from left to right.
If the first value having positive AND with $x$ is found, replace that value by $x$.
Otherwise append $x$ to the end of the state.
The transition also returns:
add = 1
if a new subsequence was created, otherwise
add = 0
Now define:
dp[i][state]
as the total contribution generated from positions $i,i+1,\dots,n-1$, assuming the current decomposition state equals state.
Suppose position $i$ creates add new subsequences.
Every newly created subsequence increases $f$ by 1 for every subarray ending at $i,i+1,\dots,n-1$.
There are exactly:
n - i
such endings.
So the contribution of position $i$ equals:
add * (n - i)
After processing $a_i$, we move to the next state.
This gives the recurrence:

This is the same recurrence used in the official solution.
Why it works
For a fixed starting position $l$, every time the decomposition creates a new subsequence at position $r$, the value $f(a[l..t])$ increases by 1 for every $t \ge r$.
There are exactly $n-r$ such endings.
The recurrence counts this increase at the moment it is created and immediately charges it to all future endings. Since every increase of $f$ is counted exactly once, and every contribution persists for exactly the correct number of endings, the resulting sum equals the total over all subarrays.
The state contains precisely the information needed for future transitions: the current last values of all nonzero subsequences. No earlier information can affect future choices.

The first part builds the complete reachable state graph. Starting from the empty state, we repeatedly apply all four possible values. Only 16 states appear.
The transition table stores two pieces of information. The first is the next state. The second is whether a new subsequence was created.
The dynamic programming runs from right to left. dp_next represents position i+1, and dp_cur represents position i.
The expression
add * (n - pos)
is the central counting step. A new subsequence created at pos contributes to every subarray ending at or after pos.
All arithmetic fits comfortably inside 64-bit integers. In Python, integers are unbounded anyway.

This example shows that a value may reuse an existing subsequence even when several subsequences are present. The first compatible one must be chosen.

This demonstrates why zero-ending subsequences do not need to be stored in the state. They never affect future transitions.
