With up to 2·10^5 initial lanterns and up to 5·10^5 queries, a per-assignment or per-state enumeration is completely out of reach. The fact that the number of special points is at most 16 is the only strong structural simplification.

This small m suggests that the real state of the problem should be expressed over subsets of points, or over configurations determined by which points are covered “for free” by each lantern at a given power threshold.

A naive approach would try to consider each lantern independently and reason about minimal required powers per lantern. That immediately breaks because coverage is not partitioned: a single point can be covered by many lanterns, and counting valid assignments requires handling all overlaps simultaneously.

A subtle failure case appears when multiple lanterns are symmetrically placed around a point. If one tries to assign each point to a single closest lantern, the counting becomes incorrect because different assignments of responsibility still produce valid global configurations. Even in tiny cases like two lanterns and one point, the number of valid power assignments is not determined by a single minimal radius, but by a union of constraints across all subsets of lanterns.

So the real challenge is to express the condition “all points are covered” in a way that allows inclusion-exclusion or subset DP over the at most 16 points.

Approaches

The brute-force viewpoint starts from thinking about each lantern independently. Each lantern can choose a power r, and for a fixed assignment we can check whether every point is within distance r of at least one lantern. Checking validity for one assignment costs O(n·m), and the number of assignments is (d+1)^n, which is completely impossible even for n = 20.

Even if we restrict ourselves to only reasoning about “effective” powers (the distances from a lantern to points), each lantern still induces many thresholds, and enumerating all combinations remains exponential in n.

The key structural shift is to reverse the perspective. Instead of assigning a power to each lantern and checking which points are covered, we ask what constraints each subset of points imposes on lanterns. A lantern with position x contributes to covering a point p only if its power is at least |x − p|. For a fixed lantern, each point defines a threshold, and the lantern’s power determines which subset of points it can cover.

For each lantern, we can describe its behavior by sorting distances to the m points. As power increases from 0 to d, the set of covered points only changes at m critical thresholds. This means each lantern induces only m+1 distinct “coverage states”, each corresponding to a subset of points it covers.

Now the global problem becomes: each lantern chooses one of its m+1 states, and we need that for every point, at least one lantern chooses a state containing it. This is a covering condition over subsets of size at most 16, which is exactly where subset DP over bitmasks becomes feasible.

However, we still have up to 5·10^5 queries inserting lanterns dynamically. The crucial observation is that each query affects only one additional lantern, and we can maintain contributions incrementally by precomputing how each lantern contributes to every subset mask of points. Then the answer becomes a product over lanterns of local generating functions over subsets, combined via inclusion-exclusion over masks.

A standard way to finish is to compute for each lantern a DP array over masks counting how many power choices produce exactly a given covered subset. Then the global number of ways where the union covers all points can be computed using subset convolution or inclusion-exclusion over masks, exploiting m ≤ 16.

The dynamic aspect reduces to maintaining aggregated contributions of active lanterns, which can be updated per query in O(2^m).

Algorithm Walkthrough

  1. For each lantern, compute its distance array to all m points and sort these distances. This defines the exact radii at which its coverage changes. The key idea is that a lantern never changes its coverage pattern except when its power crosses one of these m values.
  2. Convert each lantern into a function over bitmasks. For each possible power interval, determine which subset of points is covered, and count how many power values produce that subset. This yields a frequency table f_lantern[mask].
  3. Maintain a global DP array dp[mask], representing the number of ways to choose power values for currently active lanterns such that the union of covered points is exactly mask. Initially dp[0] = 1.
  4. When adding a lantern, update dp by merging it: for every existing mask A and lantern mask B, the union becomes A | B. So we perform a subset convolution update: new_dp[A | B] += dp[A] * f_lantern[B]. This is done over all masks.
  5. When removing a lantern, we reverse its effect using a precomputed inverse contribution or by maintaining a segment tree over time intervals of queries so that each lantern is applied and removed in a structured way. This avoids explicit inversion per query.
  6. After processing the active set for a query, the answer is the sum over all masks that cover all points, i.e. masks equal to (1 << m) − 1.
  7. Output dp[full_mask] modulo 998244353.

The core reason this works is that every lantern contributes independently in terms of mask generation, and the union operation over masks is compatible with convolution. This turns a global covering constraint into repeated algebra over a 2^m-dimensional space.
