So what matters is not exact splitting sequences, but how many “units of decrease” are needed to prevent inversions.

The extreme value of a subarray ends up depending only on how far a decreasing chain can propagate from its left boundary. Algorithm Walkthrough

  1. We compute, for each position, the nearest element to the left that is strictly greater, and the nearest element to the right that is greater or equal.
