For each position i in that hidden permutation, we look at all subarrays that contain i. Among those subarrays, we keep only the ones whose values form a set of consecutive integers. From that family, we take the longest possible subarray length; this value is a[i].
So a[i] describes how far we can expand around position i while still maintaining the property that the values inside the segment form a continuous integer interval with no gaps.
The task is reversed: instead of computing a from a permutation, we must count how many permutations produce exactly this given a.
The main difficulty is that a encodes global constraints. A decision at one position restricts possible values far away because intervals of consecutive integers must be consistent across overlaps. This pushes the problem into counting structured decompositions of permutations rather than local assignments.
The constraint n ≤ 10^5 immediately rules out any direct construction or backtracking over permutations. Even quadratic reasoning over all segments is too large. The only viable direction is to transform the problem into a decomposition over recursive structure and then combine subproblems using polynomial-style merging or divide-and-conquer DP.
A subtle failure mode appears if we try to interpret a[i] independently. For example, it is tempting to think each position defines a symmetric interval around it, but in valid configurations these intervals overlap and constrain each other. Another common mistake is to assume the permutation decomposes into independent blocks where a[i] = 1 acts as separators. This is false because a position with a[i]=1 can still be part of a larger structure; it only indicates that no valid consecutive-value segment longer than one contains it, not that it separates value intervals.
Approaches
A brute-force solution would try every permutation of 1..n and compute its a array, checking equality. This is factorial in size and immediately infeasible beyond n=10.
A slightly less naive attempt is to fix a permutation and compute its a in O(n) using sliding window and range min/max checks. Even if we could prune invalid prefixes, the search space remains n!.
The key structural insight is that valid permutations are not arbitrary objects: they are built by repeatedly merging contiguous blocks of consecutive values, where each merge respects monotonic ordering constraints induced by the definition of valid segments.
If we think in terms of values rather than positions, the critical observation is that the structure is governed by how intervals [l, r] over values can be embedded into the permutation such that they appear as monotone runs in position space. Each such interval behaves like a node in a decomposition tree, and larger intervals are formed by merging adjacent value blocks.
This turns the problem into counting valid hierarchical decompositions of the value line 1..n. Each merge step corresponds to choosing whether the combined segment is increasing or decreasing in the permutation, and how subsegments are interleaved in position order. These interleavings produce combinatorial coefficients, which naturally leads to polynomial convolution when merging two independent subtrees.
Thus the solution becomes a divide-and-conquer DP over value segments, where each segment stores a distribution of ways to realize it with a given size contribution, and merging two halves requires convolving these distributions.

Algorithm Walkthrough
