Algorithm Walkthrough

We maintain two levels of structure: a global structure ordered by value, and per-value structures ordered by weight.

  1. For each diamond type, we store its current count, and we insert it into a structure keyed by its value and weight if the count is positive. This ensures every active type is represented.
  2. We maintain a mapping from value to a multiset of pairs (weight, type id). This allows us to always access the lightest diamond for a given value.
  3. We also maintain a max-heap or sorted container of all values that currently have non-zero items. This allows us to quickly find the highest value present at any moment.
  4. For update queries, we adjust the count of the affected type. If it transitions from zero to positive, we insert it into its value bucket. If it becomes zero, we remove it. This keeps structures synchronized with reality.
  5. For a query of type three, we simulate greedy selection. We repeatedly take the current maximum value bucket. Inside it, we repeatedly take the smallest weight type available. If the remaining capacity is large enough to take all remaining copies of that type, we consume it entirely; otherwise we take only a partial number and stop.

Each time we remove a type completely from a bucket, we update the global value structure if that bucket becomes empty.

The key idea is that every removal corresponds to permanently exhausting some portion of the state, so although a single query may scan many elements, each element is removed at most once across the entire runtime.

Why it works

The greedy rule depends only on global ordering by value and local ordering by weight. By maintaining these two levels explicitly, we replicate the exact selection process without ever enumerating individual diamonds. The amortized cost stays bounded because every deletion from a bucket is final, and each type moves monotonically toward zero count under consumption during queries.

Edge Cases
