This suggests maintaining a global toggling structure: whenever a node is “active”, its value flips the parity state of that value. The path query problem can then be converted into maintaining a dynamic set of active nodes representing the current path, and supporting toggles as we move between queries.
To support efficient path transitions between arbitrary queries, we use an Euler tour representation of the tree combined with Lowest Common Ancestor computation, and then apply Mo’s algorithm over the tree traversal order. Each query becomes a range-like operation over an Euler sequence, where nodes are added or removed as we slide from one query state to another.
Once we maintain parity counts of values, the remaining problem is: given a range of values [l, r], find any index x in that range whose parity is currently 1. Algorithm Walkthrough

- Maintain a decomposition of the value range [1..n] into blocks of size about √n. For each block we maintain how many values currently have parity 1 inside that block. This allows fast detection of whether any candidate exists in a block.
- To answer a query [l, r], iterate over blocks fully contained in the interval. If a block has zero active values, skip it. If it has at least one, scan inside the block to find a value x with cnt[x] = 1 and x in [l, r].
- If no such value is found after scanning all relevant blocks, output -1. Otherwise return the first valid x found.
The correctness relies on the invariant that at any moment of the Mo sweep, cnt[x] reflects exactly the parity of occurrences of x in the current active path set. Because every node is toggled exactly when it enters or leaves the current window, parity remains consistent. The block structure does not modify correctness; it only accelerates the search for a qualifying value within a constrained interval.
