Since rows and columns are sorted by thresholds, the process of unlocking can be seen as expanding two pointers: how many rows and how many columns are currently active. The only state that matters is the current prefix of unlocked rows and columns and the total accumulated score.
The guide affects exactly one cell, meaning it can improve one transition that potentially reduces the number of runs needed to cross one of the next thresholds. Therefore, we compute the base process and then evaluate the marginal benefit of boosting each cell, but in a compressed way: only cells that can influence the “frontier” of unlocking matter, which reduces candidates significantly.

Why it works
At every moment, the process is fully determined by two monotone variables: current score and the unlocked prefix boundaries. Therefore, the guide cannot change the structure of unlocking events except by accelerating one transition, and checking all such transitions suffices to capture the optimal improvement.
