A few subtle failure cases appear with greedy intuition:
One failure case is assuming we can independently assign each edge using the first path that contains it. For example, if two queries share an edge but demand different minima on overlapping paths, locally assigning values leads to contradictions that only appear later.
Another failure case is assuming that for each query we only need one edge on its path to take the value $g_j$. That ignores the fact that multiple queries can force the same edge to simultaneously be the minimum for incompatible values.
The real challenge is that each constraint effectively says: on a path, at least one edge must have value exactly $g_j$, and all edges on that path must have value at least $g_j$. These are global constraints over tree paths.
Approaches
A brute-force viewpoint is to consider all assignments of edge values from 1 to $10^6$. For each assignment, we would verify all queries by computing minimum edge values along each path. Even if we precompute LCA to answer path queries in $O(\log n)$, the search space of $10^{n}$ assignments makes this impossible.
Even if we try a constructive greedy approach per query, such as processing queries in any order and updating edge lower bounds, we still fail because constraints interact non-locally. The key issue is that a query does not assign a single edge; it enforces a minimum over an entire path, so constraints propagate in a structured way.
The key insight is to reverse the perspective. Instead of thinking of each query as defining a minimum, we think of it as a requirement that at least one edge on the path must achieve exactly that minimum value, and all edges on that path must be at least that value. This suggests that we should first assume all edges start at value 1 and then enforce lower bounds.
We can model constraints as inequalities on edges. For every query $(a, b, g)$, all edges on the path must satisfy $f_e \ge g$, and additionally, at least one edge on the path must satisfy $f_e = g$. The first condition is easy to enforce using path maximum constraints on lower bounds. The second condition is what couples queries together.
We resolve this by first pushing all lower bounds through the tree using difference-style propagation on paths. Then we validate that each query still has at least one edge whose final assigned value equals its required minimum. If not, the configuration is impossible.
The remaining challenge is efficiently applying and checking path constraints. This is handled by preprocessing parent and depth information and using DFS-based LCA path walking.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We root the tree arbitrarily, say at node 1, and compute parent and depth arrays so that we can traverse paths between nodes.
- We initialize all edge lower bounds as 1. This represents the weakest possible valid assignment before considering constraints.
- For each query $(a, b, g)$, we traverse the path from $a$ to $b$ using parent links (after LCA decomposition), and for every edge on this path we update its lower bound to be at least $g$. This enforces the condition that the minimum on the path cannot be smaller than $g$, because every edge is now at least $g$.
- After processing all queries, we compute final edge values as these lower bounds. At this point, all “$\ge g$” constraints are satisfied by construction.
- We validate each query by checking whether the path from $a$ to $b$ contains at least one edge whose assigned value equals $g$. If any query fails this condition, we conclude that no valid assignment exists.
- If all queries pass validation, we output the assigned edge values.
The key subtlety is that step 2 only enforces lower bounds, but does not yet guarantee that each query achieves its minimum. That is why step 4 is necessary and cannot be skipped.
Why it works
Each query imposes a monotone constraint over a path: all edges must be at least $g$, and at least one edge must be tight at $g$. Propagating lower bounds ensures feasibility in one direction: no edge violates any minimum requirement. The validation step ensures that the “tight edge” requirement is also satisfied.
Because all constraints are lower-bound constraints, increasing an edge value never breaks feasibility, so once we enforce all required lower bounds, any valid solution must lie above or equal to it. If a solution exists, it can be transformed into one where edges are exactly these lower bounds without violating any constraint, provided the tight-edge condition is still achievable. The validation step confirms whether this necessary structure exists.

The DFS builds a rooted tree and assigns each node a parent edge, enabling upward traversal along any path. The function get_path_edges collects all edges on a path by repeatedly lifting the deeper node, which is sufficient for $n \le 5000$.
The array f stores the current lower bound for each edge, starting at 1. Each query enforces its minimum across the entire path.
