The important constraint is that n can be up to 200,000 per query, with up to 10,000 queries overall, so the total number of cells is bounded by 200,000. This rules out any solution that tries all rotations or builds a full state graph per cell. Anything quadratic in n per test case is immediately too slow.

A naive approach might try to simulate all possible orientations of each pipe and perform a BFS over states like (cell, orientation). This explodes because each cell has up to 4 meaningful orientations, so the state space is linear in 4n, but transitions depend on compatibility checks that still lead to large constant overhead and repeated recomputation. More importantly, the connectivity structure is highly constrained, we are not exploring arbitrary paths, only a monotone path from left to right.

A subtle edge case arises when a cell is a straight pipe. A naive implementation might treat all straight pipes as identical without considering that rotation determines whether they connect horizontally or vertically. For example, in a column where we need to switch rows, a vertical straight pipe is required, but a horizontal one blocks traversal. Ignoring orientation feasibility leads to false positives.

Another edge case is when both rows have bends that only connect internally within a row unless rotated in a coordinated way. Locally valid connections do not guarantee global reachability, since a choice that allows moving down in one column might block future required transitions.

Approaches

The brute-force idea is to treat every cell as having up to four orientations and attempt to propagate connectivity from the starting state. Each state is a combination of position and orientation, and we try transitions to adjacent cells if both endpoints can be rotated to match the required connection. In the worst case, this creates up to 4n states, and each state may consider transitions in multiple directions with rotation checks. While still linear in theory, the constant factor becomes large, and more importantly the structure is unnecessarily complicated.

The key observation is that the path is monotone from left to right, and at each column we only need to know whether it is possible to enter the column in the top row or bottom row and continue forward. This collapses the problem into a simple dynamic process over columns with at most two states per column. Instead of tracking orientations explicitly, we encode whether each cell can support a horizontal connection, a vertical connection, or both, and then propagate feasibility from column to column.

We reduce the problem to maintaining which rows are reachable at each column, given that pipes can be rotated to satisfy required entry and exit directions. Each column transition depends only on whether we can stay in the same row or switch rows using compatible pipe shapes.

Algorithm Walkthrough

We process each column from left to right, tracking whether it is possible to reach the top cell or bottom cell at that column with a valid orientation choice.

  1. Initialize the state at column 1 as reachable in the top row because the path must start at (1, 1). The bottom row is initially unreachable.
  2. For each column i from 1 to n, we examine whether we can continue from previously reachable states. At any point, we maintain whether we can be at the top or bottom cell after processing column i.
  3. For each cell, determine whether it can be oriented to support horizontal passage. Straight pipes can be made horizontal, and curved pipes can be rotated to allow left-right flow depending on type.
  4. If we are at the top row in column i, check whether we can move to column i+1 in the same row. This requires both column i top cell and column i+1 top cell to support horizontal connectivity simultaneously. This shared constraint is the key coupling.
  5. Similarly, check if we can move vertically from top to bottom within the same column. This is possible only if both cells in column i can be oriented to connect top and bottom simultaneously, forming a vertical bridge.
  6. Update reachability for column i+1 based on these transitions: staying in the same row or switching rows, depending on which pipe configurations can be simultaneously satisfied by rotation.
  7. Continue this propagation until the last column. If at the end we can reach the bottom-right cell (2, n), output YES; otherwise output NO.

Why it works

The algorithm compresses all orientation freedom into local feasibility of three connection types per cell: left-right, top-bottom, or both. Because each pipe can be rotated arbitrarily, we only need to know whether a shape class can realize the needed connection, not its exact orientation. The DP invariant is that after processing column i, the reachability state correctly represents all configurations of rotations of the prefix 1..i that allow entry into column i in each row. Since transitions only depend on column i and i+1, no earlier decision needs to be revisited, making the process both complete and non-redundant.
