For example, if the path already touches its minimum x boundary multiple times, inserting a step outward might shift the entire bounding box, but only if the insertion happens at a precise moment relative to the prefix positions. A naive recomputation that ignores prefix structure will incorrectly assume the insertion always helps globally, which is false.
Another corner case arises when the path is already tightly oscillating between two extremes. In such cases, adding a move might expand the bounding box instead of shrinking it if chosen poorly, so the solution must explicitly consider only beneficial insertions and not assume every insertion is neutral or improving.

The brute-force idea is straightforward. Try inserting each of the four possible directions at every possible position in the string, recompute the full walk each time, and compute the resulting bounding box. This is correct because it explores all legal modifications. However, recomputing the full trajectory for each insertion position costs O(n) per check, and there are O(n) positions and 4 directions, leading to O(4n^2) per test case. With n up to 2·10^5, this is completely infeasible.
The structure of the problem suggests a different viewpoint. Instead of simulating the full walk repeatedly, we notice that inserting a single move only affects prefix suffix interactions: the suffix after the insertion shifts by exactly one unit in the chosen direction. This means the set of visited points after insertion is still composed of original prefix points plus a shifted suffix. The bounding box of the whole path can then be expressed in terms of prefix extrema and suffix extrema, allowing us to precompute everything in linear time.
The crucial reduction is that we only need to know, for every split position, what happens if the suffix is shifted in one of the four directions. This reduces the problem to maintaining prefix minima and maxima of coordinates and suffix minima and maxima of coordinates, then evaluating a constant number of candidates per split.

Algorithm Walkthrough
- Compute prefix coordinates of the robot’s path. Starting from (0, 0), process the string and store the position after each step. This gives full information about where the robot could be at any prefix.

- Combine prefix extrema and shifted suffix extrema to compute the resulting bounding box for that insertion choice. Compute area and keep the minimum over all positions and directions.
- Also consider the case of no insertion at all, since inserting might not improve the result.
The key invariant is that at every split position, the union of prefix points and shifted suffix points fully describes the robot’s trajectory after insertion. Because both prefix and suffix extrema are exact bounds of their respective segments, shifting the suffix preserves correctness of relative geometry, and the global bounding box is exactly the union of two rectangles in coordinate space. No point outside these bounds can exist because every coordinate in the walk is contained in either the prefix or suffix segment representation.
