The constraints are very tight, with $n$ up to $5 \cdot 10^5$, so any solution must be essentially linear or near-linear. Anything involving pairwise interaction of edges or DP over subsets is impossible. Even quadratic behavior on paths or stars is already too slow. This strongly suggests a tree DP with carefully maintained algebraic quantities per subtree.
A naive failure case appears already on a simple path. If one tries to compute rank independently on each component or assumes rank is additive over edges, the result breaks immediately because adjacency matrices interact through shared vertices. For example, in a path of length 3, deleting the middle edge produces two disconnected edges, and the adjacency matrix rank is not simply the sum of ranks of individual edges due to block structure and zero eigenvalues introduced by isolated vertices. Any naive decomposition that ignores vertex-level linear dependence will fail even on small cases like $1-2-3$.

Even if we try to avoid recomputing rank from scratch and instead update incrementally, edge deletions in a tree still cause global structural changes in components, and tracking matrix rank dynamically is essentially maintaining rank under edge deletions, which is still too complex.
The crucial observation is that rank of adjacency matrix over a forest can be expressed in terms of matchings in the tree structure. For a forest, the adjacency matrix rank satisfies a known identity: for any graph,

The main insight is that rank contribution can be expressed as a linear combination of subtree states: whether a node is “free”, “matched downward”, or “already constrained by a matching edge”. This reduces the problem to a 2 or 3 state tree DP where transitions combine child states multiplicatively due to independence of edge survival.
Finally, we compute a polynomial-style DP where each edge contributes a factor depending on whether it is used in matching structure or not, and we aggregate contributions to obtain the expected rank scaled by $2^{n-1}$, eliminating probabilities entirely.

We root the tree at node 1 and perform a DFS. For each node, we maintain two key DP values that encode how many valid configurations exist in its subtree depending on whether the node is matched to its parent or not, weighted appropriately by the probability scaling already absorbed by multiplying the final answer by $2^{n-1}$.
- Root the tree arbitrarily. This converts the undirected structure into a parent-child hierarchy, allowing independent subtree aggregation. The rank contribution of a subtree depends only on how it connects to its parent through a single edge.
- Define two DP states per node. One state corresponds to the node being “free” with respect to its parent, and another corresponds to it being “already matched upward”. These states capture whether the adjacency contribution of the parent edge can still affect linear independence in the matrix.
- Initialize each leaf. A leaf has no children, so its DP is trivial: it either contributes nothing if unmatched or contributes a fixed base depending on whether the edge to its parent exists.
- Process children recursively. For a node $u$, we combine the DP states of all children one by one. Each child contributes independently because edges are deleted independently, so transitions multiply over children.
- For each child $v$, we consider two cases: the edge $u-v$ is removed or kept. If removed, the child's contribution merges into $u$'s free state. If kept, it induces a dependency that affects matching structure, contributing to the “matched” transitions.
- Maintain updated DP after each child merge. This is essentially a knapsack-like convolution over two states, but because the structure is binary and tree-shaped, each merge is $O(1)$.
- After processing all children of $u$, compute final contributions of $u$ to the global answer. These contributions correspond to whether $u$ is paired with one of its children or remains unmatched, which directly determines its contribution to adjacency rank.
- Accumulate results up the recursion, and finally return the DP value at the root multiplied implicitly already adjusted by $2^{n-1}$.
Why it works
The adjacency matrix rank of a forest is determined entirely by which vertices are endpoints of edges that create linear dependencies between rows. In a tree, these dependencies correspond exactly to matchings formed by kept edges. The DP enforces that every configuration of kept edges is counted with correct weight $2^{-(n-1)}$, and each subtree combination respects independence of edge choices. The two-state system is sufficient because any vertex interacts with the rest of the graph only through whether it is already matched upward or still available to be matched downward, and no deeper historical information affects linear dependence structure.

A star-shaped tree tests independence of branches. Since all leaves connect only to the root, any incorrect coupling between child DP states would inflate or deflate contributions.
