A naive approach that recomputes shortest paths independently will also struggle with a subtler issue: even if the graph is sparse, shortest paths can still traverse cycles multiple times if implemented incorrectly using naive relaxation logic without preprocessing, leading to repeated recomputation and TLE.
A concrete pitfall appears when treating each query independently with Dijkstra: for a graph like a line with one extra shortcut edge between endpoints, repeated shortest path computations wastefully rediscover the same structure.
Approaches
If we ignore the restriction on m minus n, the natural solution is to run Dijkstra from u for each query and report the distance to v. This is correct because all edge weights are positive. However, doing this q times leads to roughly 10^5 executions of Dijkstra on a 10^5 node graph, which is far beyond any time limit.
The structural improvement comes from viewing the graph as a tree plus a small number of extra edges. If we take a spanning tree of the graph, every non-tree edge introduces exactly one cycle. Since there are at most twenty such edges, the graph differs from a tree only in a very small region of “cycle complexity.”
On a tree, shortest paths are trivial: there is exactly one path between any two nodes, and we can answer queries using LCA with distance prefix sums. The problem reduces to handling the effect of a small set of cycle edges that might improve distances compared to the tree path.
The key idea is to precompute distances from a small set of special nodes, specifically all endpoints of non-tree edges, plus possibly a few extra anchors. Since there are at most twenty extra edges, we end up with at most about forty special vertices. From each of these vertices, we run a full Dijkstra once over the graph. This gives us a distance table where we know the shortest distance from any query endpoint to any special vertex.
Now for any query u, v, we consider the best path that possibly goes through one of these special vertices. The shortest path must be either fully contained in the tree structure or must pass through at least one endpoint of a non-tree edge that participates in a cycle shortcut. Thus we compute the answer as the minimum of the direct tree distance and all paths of the form dist(u, s) + dist(s, v) over all special nodes s.
This works because any deviation from the tree path that improves distance must enter a cycle, and entering a cycle necessarily goes through one of its defining extra edges, hence through one of the selected special endpoints.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We first construct a spanning tree from the graph while identifying all edges that are not part of the tree. These non-tree edges are the only source of cycles, and there are at most twenty of them.
Next we compute standard tree preprocessing: a root is chosen, and we build parent pointers and prefix distances from the root. This allows us to compute tree distances between any two nodes using lowest common ancestor queries.
We then collect all endpoints of the non-tree edges. Each such endpoint becomes a “special node” because any optimal path that benefits from a cycle must be able to reach one of these vertices to use a shortcut.
For each special node, we run Dijkstra on the full graph and store the distance array. Since there are at most about forty such nodes, this step is still efficient.

Why it works
Every shortest path in the graph can be decomposed into segments that either follow tree edges or enter a cycle through a non-tree edge. Since there are only a small number of such edges, any improvement over the tree path must involve passing through one of their endpoints. By precomputing shortest distances from all such endpoints, we ensure that any possible shortcut through cycles is captured in at least one of the Dijkstra runs. The LCA computation guarantees correctness for purely tree-like segments, so combining both sources covers all optimal paths.

For each special node, we run Dijkstra over the full graph. This produces a distance map from that node to all others, capturing shortest paths that might exploit cycles.
Each query is answered by combining the tree distance and all precomputed distances through special nodes.

Edge Cases
