Edge Cases

For a single-element array, there are no non-trivial subarrays. The transformed array is empty around the pivot, so every computed subarray sum is zero and the output is zero.

For strictly increasing arrays, every element is smaller than future ones and larger than previous ones. The transformation becomes highly asymmetric, and the maximum imbalance always occurs by extending the subarray as far as possible in the direction that accumulates positives.
