The input size is large, with up to 300,000 numbers and each value also up to 300,000. This immediately rules out any approach that examines all subsets, since the number of subsets is exponential. Even pairwise or triple enumeration becomes impossible at this scale. Any solution must exploit arithmetic structure, especially divisors and gcd properties, and rely on precomputation over the value range rather than combinatorial search over subsets.
A key subtlety is that the answer is not necessarily related to the frequency of the value one. Even if there is no element equal to one, we may still obtain gcd one using multiple composite numbers whose prime factors complement each other.
A common failure case comes from greedy intuition. For example, given numbers like 6, 10, 15, one might try picking pairs with small gcd first. But gcd behavior is not monotone under greedy selection; combining locally good pairs does not guarantee global optimality.
Another edge case is when no subset has gcd one at all. This happens exactly when all numbers share a common prime divisor. For example, input 6 10 14 has gcd at least 2 for every subset, so the correct answer is -1.
Approaches
A brute-force approach would try all subsets and compute gcd for each, tracking the smallest subset size that yields gcd one. This is correct but infeasible. With n up to 300,000, even checking subsets of size two already implies about 4.5e10 pairs.
We need a different viewpoint. Instead of choosing subsets and computing gcd, we reverse the perspective: fix a possible gcd value d and ask what is the smallest number of elements needed such that their gcd is exactly d. If we divide all numbers by d, the problem becomes finding the smallest subset whose gcd is 1 in the transformed array. This reduces the problem to only considering d = 1 in principle, but it suggests a dynamic programming over gcd states.
The crucial insight is to track, for every possible gcd value g, the minimum number of elements needed to obtain a subset whose gcd is exactly g. This is a classical gcd DP over value space rather than subset space. We process numbers one by one, updating states using transitions of the form gcd(g, a[i]).
However, a direct DP over all subsets is still too large unless compressed. Instead, we maintain a dictionary or array where dp[g] stores the minimum subset size achieving gcd g. Each new number either starts a new subset or merges with existing gcd states.
Since gcd values are bounded by max element (300,000), and each number only contributes transitions through divisors of gcd states, the number of transitions is manageable when implemented carefully, because gcd values form a decreasing chain.
Finally, the answer is dp[1] if it exists.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We maintain a mapping from gcd value to the smallest number of elements needed to obtain that gcd from some subset seen so far.
- Initialize an empty DP structure. This will store pairs (gcd_value → minimum subset size). We also keep track of the best way to start new subsets using single elements.
- Iterate through each number x in the array.
- For the current number x, we consider two possibilities: starting a new subset containing only x, or extending every previously known gcd state g by combining it with x to form gcd(g, x).
This reflects the fact that any subset either includes x as a fresh start or appends x to an existing subset. 4. We build a temporary dictionary new_dp where we first insert the state gcd(x) = x with size 1. 5. For every previous state (g, cost), we compute g2 = gcd(g, x). The new subset size becomes cost + 1. The reason this works is that every subset ending at x must come from a previous subset, and gcd composition is associative and order-independent. 6. Why it works
Every subset corresponds to an ordering of its elements, and when processed in that order, the DP constructs exactly its gcd evolution. Since gcd is associative, the final value depends only on the multiset, not order. The DP enumerates all possible ways to form gcd states incrementally, and for each gcd value it stores the smallest subset size that can produce it. Therefore, if gcd 1 is achievable at all, DP will capture at least one valid construction, and the minimum stored size is optimal because all subset constructions are considered and sizes are minimized at each merge.
