The brute force perspective would treat each configuration of $K$ piles as a game state and attempt to compute whether it is winning or losing via recursive or DP-based Grundy evaluation. That immediately explodes: the state space is $N^K$, and even storing or iterating over all positions is impossible. Even if we restrict to computing transitions, each position can move to an enormous number of others.
The key structural insight is that this is a known generalization of Nim called Moore’s Nim: in a move, a player can operate on at most $m$ piles, here $m=6$. For Moore’s Nim, the losing condition is not expressed via standard xor, but via per-bit counting.
Represent each pile size in binary. For each bit position, look at how many piles have that bit set. A position is losing exactly when, for every bit position, this count is divisible by $m+1$, which is $7$ here.
This transforms the game into a pure combinatorics problem: we are selecting $K$ elements (with repetition from $N$ types), each element contributes a bitmask (its binary representation), and we require that for every bit, the total number of ones across the sequence is congruent to $0 \bmod 7$.

The brute force over group states would be a DP over $7^B$ states, with transitions given by adding one of $N$ bitmasks. That is already exponential in $B$, but $B=7$ makes $7^7 \approx 8 \times 10^5$, which is borderline but still too large to multiply by $K$ steps directly. The crucial observation is that we do not need to simulate $K$ steps linearly; we can exponentiate the transition operator using fast exponentiation on this finite state space.

Why it works
